are the RIAA so nieve? I mean, that 12 yo girl, they managed to squeeze $1200 dollars out of, and she was apparently one of the biggest filesharers in the world.
They must be losing more than they make, damaging the industry themselves, ironic i think.
I have no problem with supporting artists, i dont want to bite the hand that feeds me, but they get between 5-10% of what I actually pay. basically, i would be happy paying £2 for an album if i knew the money was going to the artists, but it dosent.
Basically I think artists should try do distribute their music much more directly, and I think things like MSN Digital Club are a good idea, BUT>>

MSN Digital Club offer ""temporary"" downloads for about £1 which is reasonable, i am happy to pay this, but they are nieve too, or more stuck in a hole, the reason why they offer temp, downloads is because obviously noone is going to pay £10 for an album, but i mean its floored, although it uses WMP Liscencing anyone with an ounce of computer media knowlege and intelligence knows exatly how to put a temp. download on CD.

The only option the RIAA are going to end up having is selling cheap (1-2£) albums online, which can be kept permenantly and copied to CD, and they are doing nothing but damaging the industry until then.

The industry didn't care with tapes because there a hassle to make, lose quality over time, and if you want a big collection, you need a wall for it, Way to much hassle for your average joe. But with digital media, not only does your media never lose quality, and fits in much smaller places, but with the internet its available to anyone who wants it. So instead of making it, you can just download it. Of course the industry is worried, they don't have the consumers by the balls anymore to pay way to much for their albums, and they'll probably never be able to charge as much again (maybe artists will start making music instead of f###ing marketing teams)

The hell with paying for it.
Hey I pay for adsl $89 a month for a very strong line so lets say its like if I had cable tv or a dish.
When a person has cable or a dish they can get vcr tapes and copy all day and nite but its ok due to they have paid the monthly cost, but wait I do the same.
Apple is selling music on a per song basis for $1 a song for use on thier Ipod product.

I forsee big music companies going away and the musicians working directly with the distribution companies (in this case Apple).

We'll see. It's an interesting scenario.
