I was have a problem to day. I got my new 1800+ athlon cpu and installed it I to have a graphics card for gaming and a sound card and 2x512 sdram sticks slave / back up Hard Disk Drive and a cdrom and a DVD burner

I looked everywhere for an answer and could not find one every one had somthing different to try but nothing worked so I broke down and oh yeh forgot I was using a 300w power supply .

Go to a store and buy a new POWER SUPPLY I BOUGHT A 465W BUT I THINK YOU
JUST NEED A 350-400

IF IT DON'T FIX YOUR PROBLEM BRING IT BACK I KNOW STAPLES WILL LET YOU RETURE IT IT COST ME $50CND WITH TAX

there was a bios update that fixed a lot of stuff with that board. you may want to try that also.
I'm rumnning a k7s5a mobo k6-2000 and recntly started a new problem. I have generic 256 pc2100 ram but it has worked aok for 8 mnths now. The problem is now sometimes it will beep at about 15-20 minute intervals. pc still runs ok but on the keyboard the letters "T Y " and backspace and shift dont work. Im thinking some kind os a memory hole. I dual boot to eiher win2k or winme (Winme is so dissapointing). I have aversato Ortek Keyboard and doubt its the kb itself.

BTW --- I used to have those crashing problems I reduced the frequency by setting the BIOS setting for the correct speed for CPU (not too high or low but at 1673mhz) and then completely eliminated them by installing win2k. I have replaced my power supply too, make sure you get something 300w or more with at least 2Amps on 5volts stand by. Just check the specs on the PS, you'll see what i mean.

well well well...

The K7S5A, nice little board, nice and cheap.

i have built numerous computers with this board, and only one ever had problems.

The machine i am typing on right now:

1700XP
256 DDR (donno what kind)
Thermaltake 8

Current temp is 40 C
max temp is about 44 C
the highest its ever been is 58C
NEVER CRASHES
this computer has crashed 3 times since i got the 1700XP, it always had DDR ram.
now, the other computer in this room:

AMD Duron 1000 mghtz
256 SDRAM (used to have 394)
idle temp is about 40 C, gaming temp is about 47
it NEVER crashed when it had 394 mb of SDRAM
i yanked the 128 out to put it in another comp, and the duron had a hissy fit. it ALWAYS crashed when gaming. Well, the Duron runs at 100 mghtz fsb, so i turned the ram down to 100 mghtz since i knew the cpu was only 100 anyway. i would seriously not be happy if i had to turn my cpu down from 133 to 100, so this didnt bother me much. Well, the duron hasnt crashed since, and the temp is the same as when the ram was at 133. I have heard from many people that this mboard has issues with SDRAM, every other one i built has DDR RAM, and they have absolutly no issues. some of them, one for sure that i know of, run higher than 55 degrees C. so i dissagree with those who believe its a temperature issue. the issue is, Elite Group did a crappy job making this board work with SDRAM. doesnt make sense, because ddr runs at 133, same as the SDRAM, (even though its measured at 266, just believe it runs at 133)
hopefuly someone can get a fix on the SDRAM issuse.

I paid for a 1200 XP. It says it is a 1200 when it boots up but it is only 900 Mhz. I am having trouble getting my money back ( still trying- TRADE SHOW) and if I get stuck with it , I at least want to list the correct Mhz in the bios. They locked me out of the cpu section of the bios. I want to know how to access and change the bios to the correct Mhz.
Regarding Temp monitoring

I started using Motherboard Monitor 5 (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/) and I love it! You can set it up to display system temps (system and core separately), and any other ones your mobo supports, in the systemtray -- there are also larger more verbose display setups. I had the same temp concerns starting out, and hated being limited to the BIOS temp readings. And I'm pretty sure it's freeware. (they accept donations)

Their site also has tons of info about CPU cooling if you're looking for more info.

I highly recommend it!

Cheers,
