Guys, the only way for me to install XP PRO was to install XP Home SP3. All the other solutions failed, but it was great to watch the topic that lasted 4 years.
Clayton had it right ... the F5 option worked like a champ. I have been a computer tech for years and have done probably hundreds of Windows installations .. Never had the problem before .... (but I usually don't buy a POS ECS board either). I never knew that option existed and doubted it when I read it. Anyway, I thank God and all the powers for forums like this that saved my ass and blood pressure in a time-crunch. Thankyou for posting. Upon booting... when it says hit F6 to load raid .. Hit F5!

I've registered just to say this was very helpful while having the problem on a XP x64 installation.

I've tried hitting F5 and choosing each processor type options, the difference was that it didn't freeze at "setup is starting windows", but rebooted.

Then I took out mem kits leaving just one piece in the first slot, and sparing time loss I've also hit F5 and chose one of the processor options (matching my processor, 64bit uniprocessor).
WORKED LIKE A CHARM.

Thank you so much everyone that've put effort in this, hope the others will find a way if different then this, because this is really a pain in the nether lands.
Hi thanks for the replay and sorry for the delay to respond

I ran all the daignosis including memtest.. it passed all the diagnosis and the hardware looking pefectly ok. I used the partition magic pro to create and format the HDD. On hardware side there is no problem. The problem is that i cant disable any thing from the BIOS because it is not giving much options.

I am able to change date and time, shared memory, security options and boot sequence. thats all i found in my BIOS.

What have to do. I tried again yday and left the laptop for one night and it failed to passing the screen "setup is starting windows"

so now i am thinking to plugging the hdd to any other laptop and try to install OS on there and can replace it to mine. is it possible? there is a chance of BSD i think.

what is your opinion....

expecting your reply soon.

Leman Junior said:
...i can install vista and win98 or Me on the same system.
But it is makingproblem with Win XP home and pro only....

It sounds like you've tried installing from at least 2 different WinXP discs, since you refer to both WinXP Pro and Home...so, that reduces the likelihood that it's an install disc problem. And of course, assuming you installed at least one of the other OS's from a CD, that tends to rule-out the CD/DVD drive and subsystem.

However, WinXP takes more memory and disk space while installing. It's possible that the installation is running into defective memory cells or corrupted sectors on the hard disk, whereas when installing the earlier Windows versions the OS wouldn't "run into" those defective areas.

Try installing with absolutely minimum hardware. If you have more than 1 stick of memory, remove them until only 1 stick of memory remains. If it doesn't work with that stick, try the next one, and so on.

You can also obtain some self-booting diagnostics and run memory, disk, and other system component diagnostics to see if there is a fundamental hardware problem.
I finally found my solution. 2 weeks to the day after my computer died, the new one is installing Windows. For those of you out there still having this problem, my solution was as follows. There is apparently a glitch in certain AMD quad-core processors, namely Phenoms and Opterons, the latter of which were pulled from shelves as a result. The BIOS update to support the quad-core CPUs went out to motherboard manufacturers just recently, mine was published on April 1st. Find your motherboard's latest BIOS software and flash it, then set the BIOS to Optimized Defaults.

It is easily the slowest format I have ever seen, but then again, it's the biggest hard drive I've ever formatted. I'm formatting with my dad's copy of Windows XP Home edition, and my own will be arriving tomorrow or the next day from Newegg. Is it possible to register the installation with the information that comes with my disk, or will I need to reformat and reinstall with my disk for it to work?
