        <title>HP Laptop won't power up</title>
        <link>http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/20062/#0</link>
<description>HP Pavilion XT178 worked intermittently for last 3 mos. Now when pressing the power button, display lights flash momentarily and then it's completely unresponsive until pressing the small pinhead sized reset button on the bottom of the case. I can then press the power button again, the lights flash, and then it's unresponsive again. Lather, rinse, repeat. Battery will charge up when the laptop is plugged into ac power, eventually receiving a full charge, but the unresponsiveness doesn't change regardless whether plugged into ac, running on battery alone, etc. All that exposition to ask: Does anyone have tips on disassembly? I removed every screw I could find but I could only get the back half of the top side to start to pry open, and then I was worried that something would break so I didn't force the issue. I believe there is just a loose connection, because every few days or weeks, it will inexplicably power up and run for about an hour before suddenly shutting off again. Prior to this problem, the system date would always reset when the machine was powered off and I would get an incorrect time/date error upon booting up. Any ideas? Please include suggestions on how to disassemble. Thanks. </description>
