Jay this is a tweak that supposedly lets you encode mp3s with WMP. I don't know if it works or what but here it is

Windows media player on XP can encode high quality mp3. Here is how:

Install a mp3 codec, then make the following registry changes:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Settings\MP3Encoding
"LowRate"=dword:0000dac0
"MediumRate"=dword:0001f400
"MediumHighRate"=dword:0003e800
"HighRate"=dword:0004e200

Reboot and changes will be evident in media player options.

This link is for a program that allows you to rip mp3's with WMP Same deal as the other haven't used them so I can't assume responsibility. Give it a try if you want

MY MILDLY-ANGRY EMAIL TO MICROSOFT'S MEDIA DEPARTMENT:

A while ago (on my old PC) I used WMP9 to copy some songs over from my
Soundgarden CD titled "Superunknown". I can't find my CD anymore, and now
your stupid WindowsXP locked me out of my own WMAs from a CD I paid for.
If you can't help me find a way to listen to these songs on WMP9 without
paying your damn corporation more money, then you'll have lost one more
customer to that new wave called Linux.

WMA absloutley sucks. If you lock youself out of your files I copy protect your files I believe it's final. Maybe, you can convert the WMAs to MP3s. That way, you won't have to worry about WMAs copy-protection, or other inferiorities.

Carter I have Musicmatch Plus, so I can just play the song on WMP and record it through the system mixer source feature on the MMJ to mp3 at the same time, so I have never had this problem with WMP. Is this what you are talking about?

Go into the Media Player. Once on the main screen double click on tools then click on options then click the copy music tab. on the copy settings menu remove the check mark for protected contents.

This disables licensing so that you media player won't read the "one or more of your licenses are corrupted or missing" error, this error will make it so media player will not copy music or burn music to a cd. (if this has happened to you, you must restore your windows settings through your rescue cd to restore the media player).

Hey I have a fun one for you guys. I have Soundgarden's "Superunknown" and I copied the WMAs off the CD with WMP9. This was on my old PC. Now I can't migrate my license and I can't get a hold of a Microscam representative. I lost my CD. Anybody has an app to crack the DMZ on these songs? All the apps I try crash before encoding to MP3.
