There are plenty of companies that treat customers well - I just had what I think is a fastest reply (for me) from Samsung about replacing a knackered ROM (surge basically erased the EEPROM on a disk I am trying to recover data from), and the support at Samsung got back to me within 20mins of submitting the request (albeit to tell me what I suspected to be the case, but at least a reply, and helpful for ticking off another possibility).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
IBM, Western Digital, Creative Labs, there is a list of companies that are capable, and give good support when needed, and are deserving of being given the wherewithal to remain in the market. Always give them the benefit of the doubt, and a chance to prove themselves, but when there is no doubt you vote with the only tool available that means anything to large corporations - your custom.&lt;br /&gt;

        <description>I had 2 different disks from fujitsu - an MPG3032AT, and another the model of which I forget as it's in the bin now, but from the same series, and a 40Gig model.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
They both exhibited the same behaviour - I could boot, and get the drive up and running long enough to get the OS loaded, then they would lock the PC, with the case Disk LED on constantly. I tried fujitsu for support, and got nowhere fast - no replies to email, and no info that was helpful that I could find on their site.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I basically tracked both problems (eventually) to the fact that the drives were overheating (to around 60 degrees C on the external casing of the drive - I never did a diagnostic to find the internal temp).  I could solve the problem for a limited time by cooling the drive (by a technique that came from one of the UK's PC magazines - place it in a sealed bag with a couple of bags of silica to stop condensation, vaccuum out as much of the air as possible, and put it in the freezer for 12 hours).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This gave me enough time (about 15 mins) to transfer essential data off.  The drives then got turned into &amp;quot;Modern Art&amp;quot;, as I couldn't find a HDD cooling fan that could cool them enough to keep them working, and refrigerating the case should be a project, not a necessity...&lt;img src=&quot;http://media.hardwareanalysis.com/smilies/smile1.gif&quot; width=&quot;14&quot; height=&quot;14&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; alt=&quot;:-)&quot; title=&quot;:-)&quot;&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

I had just finished repairing drivers, BIOS and such for a client's problematic windose machine, set it up to see if it would run stable overnight when suddenly- no HDD(???).  Model MPG3102AT.  I then found the sites listed above.&lt;br /&gt;

Whatever you do, if you have one of these or similar drives, DO NOT DISPOSE OF THEM UNTIL YOU CHECK OUT THE LINKS!!!  Hope this helps out!&lt;br /&gt;

        <description>I also had problems with my fujitsu drives.&lt;br /&gt;
My 30 gig hard drive died about a month ago with all of my important data on it. After freaking out for a few days and trying EVERY possible method of software data recovery possible, I came to the last possible option availbale for hard drive repair..&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I smacked the drive really hard with my knuckle and plugged it back in..&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Amazingly, this worked!! The drive was recognized on bootup and i was able to copy all the data off!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Just yesterday I had the exact same problem with my 20 gig (mpg3204) model, and smacking it again with my knuckle seemed to fix it, at least temporarily.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So before any of you send off your drives for $500 &amp;quot;data recovery&amp;quot; please, try this method!  If it doesnt work the first time, take out all your frustrations on the drive and try again. i only have the one drive and had the Bios on Auto detect on both Master and Slave, Well it worked as a master for awhile and Slave as NONE (no second drive), until one day it would not boot, and found the Bios only now reconized it as a SLAVE now ,and showed master as NONE, so now my hard drive changed by itself to be a slave,  booting up from floppy and doing a DIR c: only confermed that my data was still intact, recoverd data by adding a new boot hard drive and copying files from the now slave drive to my new master</description>

        <description>Same problem - MPG3202AT disk not recognised by BIOS. &lt;br /&gt;

On boot the disc produces an abnormal acoustic &amp;quot;Eek Eek..&amp;quot; noice... I downloaded the RecoverToolV202A.exe - however the manual states that the software can not help with abnormal conditions such as the above mentioned noice. (I offcourse tried anyway - but no luck in detecting the HD)&lt;br /&gt;

My disc came from an IBM Netvista 2179-86G - so I strongly advice people with the same maschine to start backing up their system before breakdown.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Any solutions to help with the Eek Eek problem and recover the data will be very much appriciated! </description>

        <description>my hdd is MPG3204AT-EU and it started to work as already told in my previous post here after I used Fujitsu little program &amp;quot;Fujitsu-RecoveryTool V.202A&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
I managed to get all data from disk and it was still working when I tested it last week. But considering that its version is EU not E and it is already recovered (never know when it will die again) I am not sure can it be worth of it to sent it to you? I live in Estonia.&lt;br /&gt;
If you find out whats the difference between E and EU versions and still want the PCB of this disk I can send it to you because I never use this disk anymore.</description>

I have a slightly diff prob with this HD, mine is a MPG3204AT  -E  (Date 2001 - 05) with an &amp;quot;internet lifetime&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
of my stuff locked up in it after a power supply surge cooked something on the driver card.&lt;br /&gt;

        <description>I have just used the recovery procedure on a 10 gig fuji and it works! I downloaded the patch, made the floppy, booted the machine whith only the Fuji hard drive.  The floppy did its stuff and reported there was nothing wrong with the disk (but the patch was a Fujitsu release!).  after that the disk worked fine, and is still working 2 days later.  I am just waiting for it to fail, as I have recovered all data.</description>

        <description>The firmware only works when the drive is starting to deteriorate. It is actually the engineering area of the disk that dies, not the firmware and this has to be recovered by data recovery specialists.</description>
