Hi Jayne. You running Windows ME? If so, refer to this advice from Big Bad Bill's fun factory:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support....bContent=1

Cut and paste the entire link. The problem described is not exactly the same as yours but the steps described may help. You could also try extracting the original copy of the file from your windows disk and using it to replace the version on your system, in case this has been corrupted.

Hi all.Just bought myself a Philips DVD+R/+RW and i am having trouble installing it.I have a Compaq Presario 5290 with AMD Athlon 1Ghz.When i connect the DVD drive in my computer i get the error message CMDNINST has caused an error in unknown .My pc then refuses to start up so i have to shut down manually.I can only get my pc to work when i disconnect the power from the DVD.Done everything suggested from people with problems like mine,ie. checked cables are right way, switched jumpers(i have a cdrw installed) but still cant get past this error message.Any feed back would be much appreciated.
