NO I swear the line is capped. SBC did this all over U.S. because of sync issues. Call them and tell them to uncap it. I know I will!

its proberly POTS issue..

goto dslreports.com and do a line quality test..
link here fir you:
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality you need to sign up for the tests .

check info on your line with what your modem says for noise and attenuation

install netmedic to tell you where the slow down is link here
http://www.webattack.com/get/netmedic.shtml

as who ever said check your line inside your home, long extenshion cables (even if rolled up) can cause problems test direct to socket

ensure you MTUs are set correctly, try this link to software to do this for you:
http://www.speedguide.net/
click on tcp/ip analyster
and download the link that below for tcp optimizer

also download cable nut and open it using the windows 2k reg files ( under open) link:
http://www.broadbandnuts.com/software.shtml

this should all help you!

Recently (about a month ago) SBC was having trouble with their server. Everybody was losing synch, so they cut speeds down to keep people from calling in with synch problems. Call SBC and tell them to 'uncap' your DSL line. This happened to me, I'm going to call them today and tell them to uncap my line. Hope this helps.

ok, i downloaded the winamp thing, i have cable with a 100mbps with optus, live in australia, so slow downs can be caused because the download link is to america i think, well, i downloaded it, first with normal download, 260 kb/s average, i used download accelerator plus 5, the moment it started download, i had 1.3 mb/s, as it reached 50%, i had only 800 kb/s, as it reached 90%, i had 300kb/s and it ended at that, so i can't really say a thing about dap's speed, but i recommend you to using it, me, downloading off an australia server gives me constant 1 mb/s, normal download would be 500+ kb/s, so get dap, it'll save you a fair bit of time

Also, make sure you are using CAT5 phone cables in-between the wall and every device the phone line goes through before it hits the modem. I used to use regular phone cables in some places. Upgrading to the CAT5 cables almost doubled my speed.

My setup on SBC Yahoo! DSL from the wall to my enthernet jack, all on CAT5 phone cables. The dashes are CAT5 cables (except from the splitter to he phone) and the underscores are just there to keep the forum from formatting my message to meaninglessness.
hi there you taking about bits or bytes?

you may need to chage your MTU's as its often not the default OS levels causeing slow speed.

It had happened to me but they had not sctivated the line correctly.

try this test, its in bytes 100 is 1024 kbs line speed but dont forget to take off about 15-20% for overheads

you need to look at your attenuation as there selling lines that are above recommened maximums for this and they know it!! but below 45db is good the lower the better.

anyway that link to test your speed.
http://www.world-of-adsl.com/speedtest.html#

also for eveything else try http://www.dsreports.com

they have tools for mtu, ping, latency and line quality

I know what your problem is, because I did the same thing. It's your cable. The wires don't go straight through like in a 10 Mbps connection. Your probably have a 100 Mbps NIC, and the wires need to be crossed. Go here -->

http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/cable/cable5.htm

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and wire your cable where it says --

CROSSOVER
568A to 568B

I bet this will solve your problems.

im not using any router. im using their SpeedStream 5100 dsl modem. everything is setup correctly. i had sbc internet before i moved to this new area.

wtf are you talking about CARTER? yahoo dsl is the only company that offers dsl in my area. i have no other choice. yeah so i can built my own pc doesn't mean that i'm an expert in deciding what dsl service to go for. there's a BIG BIG difference there because I have no control over the service. building my own pc.. i have TOTAL control. i dont work at the company because i'm only their customer. shoot.. if i work there i wouldn't be in here asking for suggestions would i? i would've been able to resolve it right away. it's not my fault that i'm having this problem. it's SBC Yahoo's FAULT and their stupid customer service! it is false advertisement. they can't help me for s**t. i think they will need to come by my house and re-wire my connection or inform their manager or boss about the issue i'm having. i heard that i can get some money back for this complaint.
