Whooopeeee,

Just saw the good news about ATX today......but damn you beat me to the post again Payton

Its a relief really considering how much time people have been putting into modding their most rescent ATX cases. What makes me even more happy is the fact that I have my beady little eyes on a new Lian Li V2000B, atleast I can justify the cost now.

Who ever posted the fact that its good to have all of the standards upgraded at the same time.......YOU ARE DAMN RIGHT. We kind of complain about having to upgrade most of the time, but just imagine it was done over a few months.....ahahhhhhhhhhhh what a nightmare that would be. It would be one way to let AMD run away with the game.

Phew.

I think trying to change everything at once will be a pretty good IDea. Instead of new socket. few months later new MB. later PCI-E...and etc then every few months we would have to buy new crap try to implament it all at once give it a year to work out all the bugs and it'll be nice. But I think its better than slowly updating over the next year cause it would p**s me off getting new CPU new MB every couple of months. But we'll see.

"So, in the future, if you want to switch from Intel to AMD (or vice versa), you can't just go get a new mb and cpu for £200, you got to get mb, cpu, graphics card, memory and case. Hell, chuck in a hard disk and you got a whole new box."

Indeed, that's one of the problems you'll be faced with, AMD is not likely to move to BTX due to their memory controller being built into the processor itself. Moving to a BTX form factor would mean long traces and a routing nightmare for them. I highly doubt we'll ever see BTX motherboard from AMD.
GSMJ. That would be funny huh? I'm getting ready to tear down my whole system and do some serious modding on the basic structure of my case this weekend so if I screw it up I may be needing a new case sooner than expected.<g>

Payton that is hilarious......I can actually imagine someone squeezing an AGP card in with the bag still on.

As for the new standard in BTX cases, Coolermaster have designed the Stacker to be compatible with all current ATX and the New BTX case standards. They are available to buy but I have not heard any reviews so far. You can trust that a company like coolermaster are not going to promise without delivering, the case has been designed to dramatically improve the thermal environment inside your case.

The thing with all of these new Standards is that apart from being expensive, they are riddled with bugs. As each piece of hardware is an entirley new build, its going to be some time before we can see any real reason to go ahead with upgrading an entire system. It will take the manufacturers a considerable amount of time to push the standards to a level where we can all see the point in upgrading. The recent test at http://www.extremetech.com gives a good demonstration of the new hardware......but its by no means convincing when placed against the current best from Intel or AMD.

The review at Extreme Tech does point out that for those lucky enough to have a high-end P4/AMD systems then there is no need to upgrade any time soon. It seems however that the only people who are going to benefit from the new hardware standards are going to be those using Graphics Intensive applications. For those not rendering in CAD or playing high end games there is just no real point in upgrading if you are already running above 2 Ghz.

If you do need a new case, buy the Coolermaster Stacker. By the time your current hardware gives up the ghost then you will have a great case and the next gen hardware should be at a point making an upgrade worthwhile.

Oh Airman it's all done with a smile on my face. I actually did see that raft at an army surplus store though. I love how these Asian companies describe things in their user manuals. Like my mobo manual. It says

Safety Precautions
Follow these safety precautions when installing the mainboard.
1. Leave components in the static proof bags they came in.

AH HA HA HA HA!!!! CAN YOU JUST SEE THE INSIDE OF SOME NOOBS CASE ON HIS FIRST BUILD WITH ALL THE COMPONENTS INSTALLED WITH THEIR BAGS STILL ON THEM? AH HA HA HA HA!!!

Airman have you seen anything definite? Everything I can find is very vague. Even the industry standards doc I quoted from. Why do they always have to be so mysterious about this $h!+. And P4 2.4C GHz tells me everything I need to know. Why do they have to get weird like AMD. Do they have to call it an aquatic flotation device for inflation by mouth? Jez it's a damn blow up raft for christ sake!
