I didn't read all that was said here, but here is my two cents. THE GAME SACARED THE ssss OUT OF ME. I mean, playing this at night with now one else around sure helps; the graphics are fine with me, i tried in super high settings (or whatever they are) and it lagged a bit when oppening doors so i went back to high and it just looks great. The sound is sweet, i just love how when you move the sound changes acording your position. I was amazed i fired at something in the cealing and it moved back and forth, and also when you shoot barels they explode and all the screens that you can interact with; that's just a great game to me. Far cry? haven't played it, but i saw the trailer and it seems like doom is more engaging. The game gets a 9 out of 10 from me, why a 9? well, because there could have been more physics into it, like just doing anything you want prery mucho; but i guess i'll have to wait untill i get enough to buy half-live.

My specs? Not much really, the Ballistix does it all
Such extreems in the views given.. My only thought is.. I must play someone else's copy.

Then decide if I want it for myself, and how the game plays.. and how the engine appears to make the game play work.

Such extreems shouldn't be found on one item.

Perhaps there are extreems between the hardware on the ssytems you guys have?

This is my current conclusion. Great hardware.. great experience.. Crappy hardware crappy experience...

Then there are those in the middle.. those with machine akin to my own. Not the crappiest.. but not the lates (best) either. Appearently it runs well on Hardware B+ crappy on A+ and .. well if at all on C-..

I suppose the best score I could give it.. (having not seen it or played) would be a 3/5 Better then half.. but I only have so much input .. thus far.

From Hype.. 120%..
From my experience.. 0..
From what I have estimated form others.. anywhere from 70% to 99.98% with only one saying 100% based on generated Hype (scaled from 1-120).. makes at best 98.8% ..(scaled from 1-100)

So what am I going to experience? I'll let ya know when (if) I play it..

it helps if you read things i said that when you HIT things they sounds the same, yeah the game has the best sounds and really scared the crap out of me so that every hair was standing on end. i like the game, but its not the best game ever, the game that actually not that many people are making it out to be. there are alot of mixed opinions about this game. but since completing it i havent played it.

right time to get shouted at:

the main problem i had with doom is its to linear. unlike farcry when you could pretty much take any route you wanted. true its set inside but still they make it to tricky to find other routes. i completed farcry 3 tiems twice on easy and the third on the hardest setting. i guess i just really like the game

1 thing i really like about doom 3 was the little touches, like on the side of one locker was a post-it note with the code on it. and you pick up someones PDA and it says oh yeah you left your lunch here i put it in locker bla bla heres the code, so you go back to it open it up and theres his lunch, its great. one thing though i thought there was supposed to be music, or did i read that off a dodgey site?

OK,
1.) Not once yet have I been anything but p**sed off from doom3, I have never been scared by it because I expect the monsters. Only so many times can a monster suddenly spawn (or hide) in a dark corner, then start trying to beat the crap out of you.
2.) There are way less items that move in Doom3 compared to FarCry (lights to note an example).
3.) Farcry did have bumpmapping, water, to note a huge example, and on the vehicles I noticed some (after I was almost done with the game. I think that its good that you dont notice the bumpmapping in FarCry, because then it doesnt make you sit there and examine the graphics, but enjoy the game.

Dont get me wrong tho, I still think the game is good, but not nearly as good as the hype.
I give it a 85%

'lol you're not right im sorry but not many things move in doom, chairs bins and lights thats about it, also its hard to get an idea of physics when you kill an imp for example once they are dead they fizzle away,'

First, the demons are from HELL. I mean, it's hard to believe that they die, much less stay dead. Have an imagnination. Second, It's not Half Life physics where you can pick up a house with your tractor beam and throw it at a monster, it's based on looking realisitc. s**t in the game moves, books fly around, coke cans get kicked... accents of the game.

I mean, honestly buddy, get your head out your ass. This isn't a real life simulation; it's a video game.

"secondly they hadnt got the sound sorted properly, when you anything with the torch is sounds the same, ok sorry tehre are 2 sounds everything else and a zombie, only 2 noises when there are lots of dirrerent materials."

Do you even have a sound card? The sounds are spectacular.

"bit piicky i know but hey. i enjoyed the game, but personally i prefer farcry, its got more too it, the fact you have huge landscapes not just hallways. but this is my opinion."

Well, I don't agree with what you say, but i'll defend to the death your right to say it.

But your beef with the engine it's self, or the actual game it's self is completely unfounded. The physics are great, the sounds are amazing, the graphics are spectacular, and frankly, I think you'd have to be insane to take Far Cry, the game that is just a developers demo that ubisoft pushed onto store shelves that isn't all that fun, to a perfected peace of game like Doom III.

I'm just glad you people aren't game developers.

I have to agree with Chris here.

First off, Farcry just wasn't doing it for me. It had some interesting ideas thrown in it, but it just wasn't an engaging game. I played it for a good twenty minutes and got bored.

That having been said, Doom 3 and I are best friends.

Quite simply, the game is the most engaging game i've ever played; It's bumped games like Max Payne 1 and 2 and American McGee's Alice down a few levels, IMO. The sounds in D3 are second to none, the graphics are spectacular, and the story might seem a little cliched, but that's only because it's a remake of the original Doom Story, a game that most stories mirror.

I have a 2400+ with a ATI Radeon 9600xt, not the best card, but not the worst - I play the game on 10x7 Medium, and it looks and runs flawlessly, and it looks more realisitc than Far Cry.

You people want to argue that Far Cry looks better, it doesn't work that way. Far Cry has a different goal than Doom 3. Doom 3 is designed to scare the bejesus out of you, which it does via dark graphics, amazing sound and screwed up looking monsters. The game is very percise, it's designed to be like actually being thrown into a horror movie.

Far Cry looks cartoonie to me; Vivid and bright colors, which is fine - That's what they were going for. However, the shadows in Far Cry don't even come close to D3, Bump mapping looks great in D3, don't even think I saw it in Far Cry, but then again - Far Cry didn't hold my attention for long enough for me to really look for it.

The graphics for Doom 3 match Doom 3, they are dark and twisted, the physics and blood splashing - it just makes for an amazing experience. Graphics are very important - and trust me, I noticed the stray polygons (like when the suit and the marine guy are talking to the director of research) but I don't think that's the important thing; The important thing is that over all package, it's the best of the best.

I can honesty say though, most of you are probably going to be in the same boat with the people who drink the valve kool-aid and write about how amazingly spectacular Half Life 2 is going to be.

Do you people even know what physics are... I can't believe that you guys are even considering to compare the game engine in doom 3 with quake 3. When I was walking through the levels of doom 3, I decided to shoot something and guess what... IT MOVED! On camparison to far cry, half the objects in the game did not move, only the ones the game thought were necessary. Now lets take a look at the interaction with panels... Just about every panel, that is in functional order, either allows you to interact to see contents of shipments, with monitoring systems, video files, etc. I don't believe I have seen any of this in quake 3.

If the way you people are going through this game is on your hands and knees with a magnifying glass trying to determine if a certain texture looks the best or not, then you guys have seriously got to get a life.. That is not the meaning of video games.. The intention of ID on this project was to give an invigorating performance of gameplay, with the addition of outstanding physics, and create an extremely terrifying experience.. I know the rest of you are goin to deny this, but did you not jump during the gameplay? Did certain parts not get you edgy?

Besides the physics, the graphics were oustanding. The characters were excellent looking. I will agree on one thing with you and that is the bump mapping was as high as I was orginally expecting, but it still far surpasses anything to this date...

If you guys cannot agree to these previously stated comments then you obviously don't need to be playing games anymore.. You either don't have common sense or you were dropped on your head as a child more times then one could possibly count.

Oh... on a further note... Farcry sucked... gameplay was horrible.. it might have looked nice but that was absolutely the only thing goin for it.

Allow this to sink in a little... replay the game a little... and slap yourselves in the face when you realize that I am right...

Well, i just finished D3, And i am quite awed. Besides the fact that it is in fact another fps (what else could it be for crying out loud) it really is a good game, good for 20-30 hours of play just to get through the whole game once. And for the ones blasting the game, think of this: ever checked the detail of everything? how every single texture fits seemlessly to the next? the detail in the characters? the length of the game? how many hours of work has gone into that is unimaginable...I have seen a good few fps (shame on me havent tried farcry yet) but this one beats em all just by sheer amount precision that has gone into every single texel. I use a 9800 pro and at high quality,@1024x768 it looks pretty good, i was actually surprised it still handled so well. And yes like most of us playing it, it scared the crap out of me so many times i have lost count. I do have one remark though, the end boss is pretty easy to kill in my opinion, it cost me less than 3 minutes to kill him (won't spoil it by saying how ). the guardian was the hardest to kill actually, that was about 2 thirds through the game. that cost me at least 10 tries to get through that part.
Thank god i'm through this game, it has deprived me of a lot of sleep cos a game like this i just cannot leave alone till i'm done. I had the same 10 and 11 years ago with D1 and D2 (although they could be played out in an evening).
Well, off now for some hard earned sleep after that adventure, I tip my hat to ID....

I would have to disagree with sander, that doom3 is just another shooter. The graphics look awesome (espicially the characters detail), the enviroment and lighting is the best i have seen so far. If you want to see doom3 (how it is meant to be) play at ultra quality with atleast 1024x800 res.
It is true that doom3 does get repetitive, but then again all the fps are bout pickup a weapon and start shooting until the nme dies. But @ the same time doom3 has the best susspence and those jumpy moments that neither silent hill nor the Resident Evil were able to acconplish.

I will be posting some High-Res pick @ http://www.back2games.com in the coming weeks (may contain spoilers)
Buying new hardware for software that hasn't been released: Your fallacy, not ID soft's.

Everyone agrees that the game could've been better... but let's look at everything else that could have, would have, or should have.

Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions
High Definition TV
Pentium 4
Paris Hilton's Sex Tape
Windows XP
Nvidia's Geforce 4
ATI's Radeon 7xxx
Vanilla Oreos

Please, feel free to add to the list.

I agree with Sander Sassen on the fact that Doom 3 is just another first person shooter, And the worlds are so low in quality. Nothin great. I was so much looking forward to this game and even bought a new video card (Geforce FX5900XT 128) just to play this game.

I mean they took so long to develop the game...it just got me thinking,, what were they doing for so long? It is not like there is anything really special in the game, sorry to say.

Personally I would rate this game a 3 out of 5.
