Do you remember Morrowind?! That game had more errors on launch than almost any other game I've played. My point is that Doom 3 was released READY. There are no patches required, no nonsense to deal with. Love the game for what it is, if you like these types of games. The game is a helluv a thriller, and scary as hell.

I haven't played or seen any demos .. yet atleast.

But I have played and enjoyed Doom and Doom2.. The game Is and should still basically Be a Shoot'em up.
But with better Graphics. Atleast that was my impression when I first heard of it's inception. conception? ? Oh well.

There was no story line with the originals either. ..WEll in short: You are a member of the Marines. Quite possibly one of the last men standing. The odds are Slim if not Nill to survive, by killing ALL demons in your way. And to survive you have no choice but to kill them all. because if one survives.. it WILL kill you.

Wich was part of the percentage when you played. 100% monsters Killed.

Remember?

So unless my machine would choke or otherwise sputter with the frames per second.. I would be for the next Doom. If My machine can't handle it. Wel.. I guess they should have thought about that when what I have was TOP of the line. And current top of the line cards can't handle it properly.

..humm perhaps a problem with DirectX or OpenGL.. and game mechanics? Whatever. The old game should still be close to the new. I didn't care about the story line then Why should I care about that now?

I have to say, I have played this game on my friend's comp, which has an FX-53 and an X800XT, and on maximum settings, this game doesn't have great graphics. At times, if you stand still in one place, the glass flashes between two different colors, even though there is no light shimmering, and with AF at 8 I think, some of the edges are still a little jagged and the graphics a little dodgy. On my system, there are jumps and pauses. The game freezes for a couple of seconds when I go through a door into a new area, even on minimal settings. Though to be honest, I can't see a difference in performance with everything turned on and 8x AF, though obviously there is a difference in quality of image.

Give me the name of a first-person shooter, neigh...ANY game that was released for PC that was as polished and professional as Doom 3? That worked as flawlessly, had fewer errors, was playable completely through the first time. No patches, no craziness. Granted, the multiplayer is aweful, but that's why we have such an awesome modding community out there. This game, just like half-life, will be reinvented for years to come. It will remain playable and loved until the average computer user can get 120 FPS. Long live the wizards of id!
