        <description>I agree with this as well, but if you are looking for a cost effective solution, the promise &amp;quot;raid&amp;quot; card is usually the way to go...&lt;br /&gt;

IDE is way cheaper than SCSI minus some performance, but on one hand.. when you are building a server, most people want to know how much it costs more than the performance...</description>

I have to say that I thought the article was pretty good except for the fact that you used the Promise FastTrack card - If you're building a high performance server you can't take the Promise controller seriously, all but the new SX6000 and SX4000 are nearly 100% software based meaning you'd get the same sort of performance using the software RAID in the Linux Kernel. A far better choice would have been a proper controller from Adaptec (2400A) or 3Ware (One of the 7500 series).&lt;br /&gt;
