I purchased an acer travelmate 7720G and after about a week it kept crashing with the above fault. After a lot of searching on the net for a solution as acer/microsoft and ATI dont have a clue, i ended up uninstalling all the ATI drivers and CCC in the add/remove programs of control panel and installed an alternative driver combination from omega.
link is
http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati.php

Just follow the directions and install, since then I have had no problems whatsoever.

Best solution probably is not to buy a laptop with an ATI video card.
Hope this helps someone else

New Graphics card problem!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok so I got myself a new graphics card-
HIS RadeonX1650PRO "Powered by ATI"

I have a custom built P.C. with the following:-

Gigabyte 7VT600P-RZ
AMD Sempron 2500+
1024Mb Ram (Elixir)
500w PSU (Magna)
Seagate Barracuda 120Gb
NEC DVD RW
Windows XP SP2 Proffessional
19" Widescreen LCD

I unistalled the old ATI software and drivers.
I removed my old GC which was a Radeon 8500 AGP.
Fitted the new card into the Mobo.
Booted up the PC and Windows detected a new VGA device. I inserted the installation CD and installed the drivers and software.

Shut the system down as requested and then the problem began.
On reboot I got to the Windows XP screen then My LCD came up No Input Signal which normally happens then the screen went blank and I got the mesage Out Of Range.

So I left it for a couple of minutes and then got a Blue Screen

ERROR CAUSED BY THE FOLLOWING FILE:ATI2DVAG
THE DEVICE DRIVER GOT STUCK IN AN INFINATE LOOP.
THIS USUALLY INDICATES PROBLEMS WITH THE DEVICE ITSELF OR
WITH THE DRIVER PROGRAMMING THE HARDWARE INCORRECTLY.
CHECK WITH THE VENDOR FOR DRIVER UPDATES.

TECH INFO:- ***STOP:0X000000EA (0X87102260, 0X86F7D4E8, 0XF7B1ACB4,
0X00000001

So I powered down then back up and got the safe mode screen and I selected last known good configuration.
I went to the ATI website and downloaded the latest driver package and installed it.
Shut the system down as requested and the same thing happened again.

So I am thinking the GC is faulty but I ran a search on Google for the above ERROR and it seems to be a common problem.

One of the forums had a suggested fix which is to goto System Devices in the Device Manager and change from

(VIA CPU to AGP Controller) driver to (PCI standard PCI-to-PCI Bridge) driver.

So I did this and rebooted again and up popped my desktop and Catalyst Control center loaded up.

So I tried playing a game (Medieval 2 Total War) it auto detected all my graphics settings to highest and I loaded up a massive siege and the game plays great.

So my only gripe now is that my AGP slot is running in PCI mode.
Will this have an adverse affect on my PC?
Is there any other fixes to this problem that anybody knows of on the site?
Any other help advice would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to have the card running on AGPx8 for full effect but just keeps on going to Blue Screen when I do so!!
sorry to have open this thread again. but I really need help on this display driver problem.
A few days ago, my computer tells me that ati2dvag is having problem getting recognized (I didnt' see any blue screen though). it would just have very low resolution. So I unintalled my display driver (mobility radeon 9200 and ati mobility radion 9700), and re-intalled driver from SONY VIAO website (i have VGN S260P). That didn't fix the problem, but i can still operate the computer from safe mode.
Today, I use the recovery CD and re-installed everything. well, the process is completed, but when the computer reboot, it said "system not completed installed, try set up again...", so i did it again... but same message came up over and over again. the trouble is that the screen is completely black, I can't operate on safe mode anymore. It just re-boot itself over and over again. What should I do?
Please help.

I have fixed the ati2dvag problem. It was a hardware problem. The My video card was intermittent. I finally noticed I could temporarily cure the problem by hitting the computer with my fist. Dell finally relented to my constant requests and sent me a refurbished video card. After I installed the card my system has worked fine for two weeks. Fortunately Dell did not charge me for the x1400 card as long as I sent the bad one back to them.

surely, I said before, for those using Service Pack 2 on xp, ati has problems with it. I had to uninstall SP2. After that i used dna-drivers. Search on google. Dna drivers were made by a website to help out with all this trouble ati catalyst gives. About every 15 mins i would get the blue screen of death. After investigating this problem i followed dna-drivers instructions and pow my computer runs better then ever. I think the actual driver site is down. So i would suggest looking for other download locations for them. If you want to try , i believe the site is http://www.dna-drivers.com/ Check em out, hoppe it helps... the last time i was on this site was the last time i got the blue screen so you never know maybe they made a sp2 patch fix. Good luck ron

I know what the problem is i had the same exakt problem before... you need to install .net framework 2.0 in order to make it work, because the newer catalysts require 2.0 at least to function...
