Stacy,

Thank you so much for providing the bios fix! It worked like a charm, and it was actually
a newer bios version than what was on the system before it got corrupted!

In an effort to make things easier for you and others, I have uploaded the file
you sent to rapidshare, so that users can download it directly without you
having to constantly email it, and it makes it so that the users who's email
(like mine) blocks programs from being emailed to receive it!

I entered your email, into the form so it should have sent you a direct link to
the file downloading page.

Here is the link to the file on rapidshare:
http://rapidshare.com/files/114298199/bios_fix.zip.html

Thank you again for your assistance! I now have a usable computer that was a
10 pound paperweight before!

To the five people looking for the bios fix that have email addresses ending in @gmail.com. I get the mailer demon everytime from my netzero and my local account. If you still need it sent to you send a email address to snpantz@netzero.net

Can you please send the files to kg4vgc (at) gmail (dot) com please?
I have a gateway 500s, with an intel d845pt mobo. The previous owner
tried to use the intel flash files from the intel site, which of course killed it.
I scoured the gateway site, and can't find the files, all they offer for the system
when I enter the serial # is monitor inf files! Grrrrrrrrrr!

Thank you very much.

Great job and thanks for the help. Everything worked as you said...except I had a small heart-attack when it first got into XP and none of my USB items worked (which included my keyboard and mouse)! I found an old mouse, powered off, went to safe mode...and then into the control panel. The computer installed the USB drivers...then found everything else. Now I'm cooking with gas (ok, with this old machine maybe it's more like cooking with a camp fire).
Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

You can format the disk with xp first and then unzip the file directly to the floppy, or unzip and paste to the floppy. You will also need to use the bios recovery jumper on the motherboard. If I remember right just pull it off and boot the computer with this disk in your floppy. Remember to put the jumper back on after you try restarting the mb. It will rewrite the bios and will get your 2 sets of beeps and your set to go. When the computer booted the first time I think it had me save my current bios settings and reboot. Then after the reboot you do get the message once windows starts that your bios update failed but keep in mind the one that failed was the one that crashed your computer. Good luck, should be a piece of cake.

Also, do I need to create a bootable disk first...and then unzip the files to it? If so, how can I do that with only Windows XP machines?
Thanks

I'm still using Gateways bios , I'm just using intels dos file and loosing the Autoexec and command. I tried just taking those 2 files off of the floppy 1st but it was intels dos file that lets it load in recovery mode. They are Intel mb's made for a Gateway, and the board was about 2hrs away from the trash can anyway. If anyone is desperate and lost all hope, I will still send you a zip file that you can unzip to a floppy and use for a recovery. I'll also send you a word doc comparing the files showing why I came to idea of a fix if you want. And in this case the bios was already hosed so I had nothing to loose.

You're very lucky. Flashing an incorrect BIOS can not only ruin the CMOS chip, but in many instances ruin the entire mobo or require a costly repair to change the chip. I wouldn't be offering your "fix" to anybody. Bad fixes tend to irritate people to say the least.
