Just for testing i tried game on my friends comp which specs are bout:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
GeForce4 MX440 64Mb
256Mb DDR
40Gigs HDD
Game worked fast and smooth with all settings on high, trilinear, and 1024x768 res. This is definetly game with the best optimized engine i ever played.

I agree with the comment on futuremark and 3d 05, i dont have a powerful rig compared to todays standard, i thought i would do alright on the benchmark and did somewhat. That part where the dragon jumps over the ship does have great graphics, and i got maybe around 20-25 fps, but all the tests ran around the same fps compared to 3dmark 03 i got around 70-80 fps. Doom3 ran slower on my rig on medium settings 1024x768 res than half life 2 at max settings 1024x768 res, Some things just never change.

2.5 ghz Intel 845pe
640 DDR Patriot
60 gig HDD
GeForce 5900 FX 128mb
Sound Blaster 2 ZS /w Logitech Z-680 5.1 THX Speakers

Yes my rig blows compared to others, but if i can get 70-80 fps on hl2 with max settings then thats all i need, and yes its a Dell
I've not yet played Half-Life 2, but hopefully Santa dellivers it!

It's hilarious that the game that people have been furiously upgrading their machines to run, will play OK on older set-ups.

If you want to see a piece of software that is made to swell the bank balance of ATI and NVIDIA’s, take a look at Futuremarks latest 3D 05 benchmark. I don't think my set-up is too shabby, but when I ran this latest benchmark the other day I was shocked at some of the frame rates. On one part, where a giant sea-monster jumps over an airship, I was getting 1 (yes, one) fps....!!!! For crying out load - how much processing power should you need to get a pretty picture on your screen. The joke is that graphics wasn't any more spectacular than the dragon or Matrix lobby sequence from the 3D 2001 version. Come on Futuremark, what are you playing at?!!

Remember that Quake 3 anybody?
Amazing, stunning, demanding graphics. It's still used widely as a benchmark, and look at it!

Great graphics that still stand up, 5 years later, and it's all thanks to skilled programmers.

I've been saying this for a long time - end the hardware war, start the programming war! Instead of bruteforcing through every engine we throw at a system, make a more efficient game engine!
Linux would be optimal, please?

The notion that really good tweakers or hardcore hardware type are all early adopters of the newest tech is a common misnomer. Some of us simply wait for second or third generation tech of a certain platform to arrive so it will further mature. You see somewhat non-revised K8 tech right now. Some of us are just waiting for better tech and knew all along that what we had would run the latest games ok. Maybe not the best frames but certainly playable.

Hmmm....thats a very interesting article Sander. It's kind of ironic that a game is defining how good a card plays it instead of how a card defines how well the game plays.
