Well thanks all.

I tinkered in the BIOS and tried setting the AGP from Auto to 2x and it seems fine now. The card is a 2x or 4x but it just shows....

you should try it. As far as I know that card is 2X AGP default. and if you try to work it on 4X AGP the unstability of the system is understandable.

Thanks all these are useful.

I am doubtful about it being the graphics card as I had it installed before I upgraded the mboard and processor with no probs. The only difference is that I have changed it from 2x to 4x AGP. Is it worth trying the jumpers back again and running as a 2x or not?

I must admit I almost bought a new PSU yesterday as I had my mind set on it being that but now you are giving me real dobt as no one mentioned that!

The above answers are correct, but they could also be incorrect as I've had the same problem myself using a kt7a raid motherboard, xp1800 processor only to find out that its my processor, not my graphix card, Id tried everything except the processor only to find out it was the processor,
so I went out bought a cheap duron 1200 for 30 quid, hay pressto im back in bussiness, I'm a tec and these things still make me see red, just to give you a laugh hears a little more, I put the xp1800 backin the prob came back within 1-2 hours, so I changed it again put the duron backin but "get this I forgot to plug the processor fan backin" how thick am I, oh well lifes like that good luck mate.

There may be a problem with your mainboard-ram couple. I am saying this because I have a problem with a ab-ah6 LX - 64mb. 100mhz. sd ram couple. Symptoms are nearly the same. You should try to check the bios settings about the ram. Try to run the ram on default settings or optimum settings. I'd be pleased if you tell the results.

Hi

I posted this in the general section with no replies so trying here..

Can anybody help - you did the last time I had a real headache...

I have a Lex motherboard with a Athlon 1800+ and Windows ME.

Also installed are: -
256Mb RAM (SD I think)
300w PSU
Diamond viper 2 graphics card
Maxtor 40Gb hard disk
Sony CD writer
CTX CD drive
250 Zip drive
Pinnacle Firewire/video out DV capture card
Soundblaster sound board
PCI SCSI card - connected to Microtek scanner
Alcatel speed touch broadband modem on USB connection
Conexant HCF V90 modem still installed

My computer freezes quite often especially when using the internet. I can't do anything except CTR/ALT/DEL 3 times to reset. Sometimes lines appear on the screen usually vertically in a random manner. This sometimes happens while using the computer but does not always crash it. The computer also tends to freeze when opening large docs especially if launched by the document and not opeing from within the app. I have ran quite an exhaustive test on the memory with no problem seen. Does anyone think it may be the PSU or any other good suggestions. I have tried loading various crash guards, etc to try and catch it but they are never detected or logged. The strange thing is I can do full quality video capture and editing and never had one problem???

Someone please help before I have to scrap it!!
