I have 2 Ge-Force EVGA PCI-E 6800Gt 256mb with a N-Force 4 SLI board and I can not get the SLI to work i have the chip set to sli mode I have the bridge on there is nothing in the bios that deals with SLI I have installed the latest drivers 71.84 tried installing older drivers my computer recognizes both cards in the hardware but yet it just won't come together to let me engage the SLI in the video properties...

Any knowledge or help would be appreatiated..
Here's a nice anandtech article comparing some SLI boards. Its very thorough. According to tehm the DFI LANParty nF4 SLI-DR is the best.
Before purchasing I would send your attention to http://home.cfl.rr.com/dkman/myasuswoes.html . You may not like what you see. This is not the common black screen won't post error most people get. I did go through a little bit of that as well, but my SLI setup is simply unusable. I have the same shakey video as Remco. I've finally found someone else who's having the same problem.

Asus A8N mobo $227
Asus N6800 GT video card $400 (x2)
Completely worthless game video priceless
PSU that might fix the issue $239
Still completely useless game video pricey
Asus stops responding to email nice!
Hello, (maybe offtopic butt)

i have a question....

i have a sli config with 2x xfx 6800GT.
it works, but when i enable multigpu settings, my sli certified games like HL2 CS:S and farcry give shaking images on my monitor.
i use official nvidia drivers from the nividia site. it looks like a v sync problem but i dont know for sure so.......
it is not a refreshrate problem....(i think) i play games at 1280*1024 85hrz, v sync on or of does not make a diffrence......
when using a single card i doesnt happen so....
tried switching the cards etc........

help me please!!

Nvidia says that as long as their both the same GPU (e.g. ultra/GT) then it should be fine.... guess if it isnt then it makes SLI not so scalable.....in any case for myself id prob buy the last identical card just b4 it disappears...

The only problem that I see with the buy one card now and a second one later idea is that in 6 months will you even be able to find a 6600/6800GT/Ultra? as soon as the 6850 or 6900 or whatever they decide to call it comes out they will probably quit making the current cards within a month or so. I also read somewhere that the cards in SLI had to be using the same BIOS version, I know you can flash the VC Bios but its a pain. So if you're going to upgrade to SLI you might want to save until you can afford to buy both cards at the same time.

i honestly think it would be a waste of money as it appears that the Unreal 3.0 Engine and other games that are in the era of Unreal 3.0 are gonna eat the current boards and make SLi just to be able to play the game.

Ahh alright...sorry bout that.....i was thinking you were saying that two 6600 gts in SLi right now would be a great idea.....thats what i was against.....cuz i dont see why anyone would buy two cards which would normally total up to the same if not more of a system with a 6800 ultra/ overclocked gt

unless of course the opportunity arose to buy two 6600gts at a much lower price tho SLi is still too iffy for me....otherwise ppl who demand the best performance over the next 3 years running could look to dual 6800 ultras :p and a third job....

was that remark necessary?

and you just repeated what i had mentioned earlier. so what's the deal?
so that way 6 months to a year from now, if you buy a second card it'll be way cheaper.
Sigh to who knows not very much....

I mean go buy a 6800gt/ultra now (close perf as two 6600gts) its a damn good card on its own and your sli ready comp goes fine with it still

Then buy a second 6800gt/ultra (same one of course but different card manufacturer allowed to some degree) as your upgrade.... the result? you dont have to chuck out your last graphics card(s) and you get (in efect) a fairly decent 32 pipeline graphics set up.....plus the 6800gt/ultra price will have fallen to some degree.....

otherwise? whats the advnatage of two 6600gts over a single 6800 gt / ultra? (with exception to the two cheap 6600gts....nice buy)
