Believe me, the WD Raptor I got is pretty loud It's a 10,000RPM Hdd

though now that i think about it using a chipset for the corperate where they are gaining traction and margins are higher may be a good idea.... though i'm sure via likes that market too

whole point is, AMD wants to be a team player with Tiawan, why we aren't seeing a leap frog effect as each company tops another like in nv and ati as far as chipsets go is .......a good question

off topic:
nice rig george if i had money i'd have one like it, i got ur 80GB wdc though lol.... seek is too quiet for my taste, i like a siletn idle but clicky clicky seek so i know its doing something (screw hdd led i like hearing it)

that is true, but if you look before that, the original athlon, and then the period after you see just how quickly those 2 quarters of growth can shift to selling durons for a loss just to keep money moving -- as it did then.

AMD needs branding, even today people i aks about new pc's just say "oh i dunno what the CPU is, i just know its something other then intel or pentium" (yes i'm not sure if half of them know pentium is an intel product even, but they know the name)

they get a boost every good product release and then unlike intel, they can't rest on their laurels until the next one.

i'm amazed that whole socket mix up buisiness didn't trash them.... i mean that made the useless socket 423 look good (when intel could've just started at 478 they did 423 for a while then upped it to 478... only BS explanations given)

AMD is still a multi-billion dollar corporation. They aren't poor. AMD's net income in the Q3 and Q4 of last year increased significantly. This is showing that in a couple of years, AMD may be like a present day Intel.

Mr. Sasson,

AMD is the underdog in terms of company size and revenue. They know they can't take on intel without help, and thus they setup deals with these chipset companys that allows them a slice of the pie. If AMD alientated them by cutting in.... lets just say you don't keep many friends that way

although i would be a fool to not bring up that the AMD 760 chipset -- which amd made just to introduce its new platform..... ended up being the best performing option for it, even surpassing a couple later generations that taiwan came up with.

course, even then, most people took a VIA southbridge, something about less compatiblity issues then AMD's part.

though i have to admit.... i switched to intel a while back due to various issues i experiance with AMD based boards....

my 3 cents
