Mr. Sanders, you are a respected leader in the PC Forum field. Please do not dirty yourself up with miss information. Your article on, “XP-64-bit” seriously called into question your knowledge/understanding of the importance of the instruction set its format and its length.

As you know, the instruction set format was at one time, 16-bit, and before that, 8-bit.
To imply that 64-bit has issues because it does not work with 32-bit driver’s means that 64-bit does not work or that if someone purchases 64-bit they have purchased a poor quality product is out right miss information.

Just as XP does not function with either 8-bit or 16-bit instruction sets, drivers, 64-bit requires 64-bit drivers. That the drivers have not yet been written, by all sources providing drivers has no bearing on the quality of 64-bit, its functionality or whether it works or not. We cannot put air craft fuel manufactured in 1964 into today’s latest military air craft and expect the air-craft to function. Instead of belittling Microsoft, get on the software house to create the 64-bit drivers required for a 64-bit operating system.
And, as I am sure that you already know, there is no way in hell, any 32-bit operating system is going to come anywhere near 64-bit performance.

I wonder why you did not belittle 32-bit when it first came out and replaced 16-bit?

As to Upgrading from 32-bit to 64-bit, if you request the upgrade from Microsoft instead of purchasing a copy of 64-bit with its own registration number, why should Microsoft give you two operating systems for one registration number? You have more than two choices and all of them are fair, correct, morally right, except what you ablactate:

A	You can buy XP-64 bit, that gives you a valid registration number and does not affect any other operating system that YOU CHOSE TO INSTALL, or have, that is legal (you have a valid registration number for the soft ware)

B)	You request from Microsoft an upgrade to XP-64-bit, (price is much less than purchasing a valid copy of 64-bit with registration number.) With the upgrade your XP-32 bit registration number gets upgraded to reflect the 64-bit system upgrade. What is unfair?

You requested an upgrade and Microsoft provided it. Oh, you want to have 64-bit and XP 32-bit, two OS and one registration number? Doesn’t sound either morally or, ethically right/correct to me. Maybe greedy or dishonest sums it up better. Why should Microsoft provide you with a free operating system?

C)	You could choose to do nothing!

Actually, all the carping on/about Microsoft is really lopsided. Buy any new computer/motherboard and the motherboard has issues before you ever turn the system on. Go to the motherboard site and there are new firm ware downloads and other fixes. Try the new graphics card in your new system, same story. What about the new printer and its drivers? Or the sound card, Router, network card? With all of these negative issues, concerning ANY computer, any hardware, how should the Operating System ever start up? I will not even go into running anything correctly!

Add to all of that, this misleading article about instruction set lengths and greed issues,
SAD! SAD! SAD!
Well, that really sux man. I mean there should be 64 bit drivers for everything.

My suggestion to you is to eMail the manufactures of your hardware & ask them to direct you to there 64-Drivers. I mean the Windows XP x64 has been out for a wile now & is doing quite well in the OEM & retail markets.

I thinnk Microsoft is retarded IMO.
I have bought and installed windows XP 64 on my computer and as far as the speed its great. What I really was upset with was there are no drivers for my keyboard, mouse or Fingerprint reader. All which are made by Microsoft. One would think that they would at least support their own hardware!!!! It took awhile to find antivirus software that would work with it and had to go with Norton Corprate software. My firewall software drivers will not work also. And to top off the list I have a fairly new HP Photo printer that will not work because of driver issues. If I did get a printer driver I still cant print because my linksys print server software drivers dont work also. I have to send anything I want printed to another computer on my network and then print from that computer to my print server. I am really dissapointed about all of this. I have allways been on the leading edge of new toys but I am thinking about trashing this 64 crap and going back to the XP PRO!!

Has anyone seen the specifications for making 64-bit drivers? Does the manufacture need to re-tool their entire product line, if so, at what cost?

Right now system builders and small computer companies have the advantage over the "tier 1 and 2" companies. They have Windows XP 64 in their possession and are able to sell it legally.

I have used XP 64, and it is very fast. I believe consumers are being more aware of the many things a computer can do at the same time and they are trying to do it. (Burning 2 cd’s at once, research comparison with 8 different web sites at once, watching TV while recording another show, downloading, answering email while receiving it and playing games and talking on the telephone face to face across the country and tuning up my car—all while the anti-virus and defragger’s are running. All of this while being hooked into a home network with two other computers doing the same thing.) WE NEED TO MOVE FORWARD!!

The system builders and ma & pa stores can offer this type of “hook up” with the 64bit OS at reasonable cost. ---Oh, but there are no drivers. Are the manufactures of peripherals saying to the small business people, you are not important enough for us to do anything or are the big companies like HP, Dell, Sony, and Gateway making them wait until they can offer you the same service for about the same price of a new Cadillac? Or maybe Microsoft never gave them the specifications for the 64bit OS and this is just a statistical test. Maybe it is just to hard for the present day programmers to make drivers, because they are protecting their jobs-afraid of change. IT’S GONNA HAPPEN and sooner than you think.
Thanks... I wouldn't mind having a better score tho... something more with an athlon 64 ... but I will upgrade soon enough hopefully... lol

ALSO!!! The time has finally come for the official modding to start. I have decided to go with a white base and a light blue. I was doing some photoshop art with the vento, wanting to see what would look best... and I decided to go with that combo... I got a little extra money together, and decided to go grab the equipment I would need to start the modding. And just for clarification- OCGW, you don't mind if I incorporate a couple of your ideas into this case do you? Like with the air ducts to give air to the harddrives... I thought that was brilliant... difficult, but a good idea. Mainly cause there is so little room from the front of the case to the harddrives, that the air duct will have to be rather thin... but we see.

Copyright issues... lol

***Post Edit***

NM... I just found out an easier way to cool the harddrives with the same concept, just slightly different, also leaving the fans at both intakes for better use anyways. I will illustrate in a little bit, when I get a chance to do so.
Hey Super XP... where exactly did you find this thing with CPU mag... I been looking, but I can't find anything on it... hmm...

Also, has anyone here heard anything, or experienced anything with the new "venice" core athlon 64 processors??? I heard and read in several reviews that they get some groovelicious overclocks... up to 50%! With stock cooling, and they stay real cool regardless. They even overclocked the lowest venice core which was a 3000+ i think, up past the performance of a stock FX-55... and it is only like $190...
White... now there is a wonderful color... I almost thought about doing white, after we had a look at what white would look like on the Vento in another thread I think... Can't remember, but anyways... white would have a very clean look to it... But red and black is still a fave of mine... lo
