Big companies only do things for business reasons. Jobs would not have made such an announcement so far ahead of market availability unless there was something really profitable in it for Apple (and his own ego). Jobs has long wanted to kick Bill Gates in the rear end, and Intel hasn't been happy playing second fiddle to Microsoft on the desktop - and at least one industry observer thinks he knows how this announcement fits into this. It has little to do with processor markets and everything to do with Windows.
