Hi! I was also having the same problem but my computer restarted after logon.
I opened my CPU cabinet and cleaned all the power supply and chipset fans.
Then I formatted my system.
Now it's working well.
Probly this may be due to excess heating.
Sometimes it is caused due to deposition of carbon in RAM shocket so Try putting your RAM in another shocket.
But if you find a better solution then PLZ inform me.
my E-MAIL address is:->          talk2partha@yahoo.com

Sound like you maybe overheating. Check the fans on the CPU/chipset/GFX card.
Or your power supply could be failing.

hi, my computer is stuck with this problem
initially ... i was facing the problem that my computer restarted automatically after the XP Logo screen
but after a while ... it got worse

it didnt even reach the logo screen and restarted automatically

and what more to say....then after i restart it hangs after 5-20 seconds .. in between this time... whatever stage it reaches it hangs to that point, either u r in DOS, BIOS, or trying to restart with bootable CD

and now......it is only showing the first screen that's the name of the MOTHERBOARD which is mercury
and at the lower end it shows press tab to enter ....and on the right of it... press del to enter setup

but i have tried a lot... to press TAB and DEL keys ... but it hangs at that step only....
well i have unplugged the processor and plugged all the cables and even the processor ...back into their same slots but the problem is still there
please help

Mercury 810E chipset
Intel pentium 1.1 GHz
128 MB SDRAM
onboard sound card...
