ive read most of the threads and ive even done some research on this laptop...honestly it doesnt seem too bad, actually far from it.
However im still a fan of a bigger screen.
The question i asked myself and im asking others is if one would willingly sacrifice screen size for pocket friendly mobilty?
i thought about it and came to the conclusion that if i really want such a small item i would rather get an imate/smartfone...
thats my opinion...but other than that its a beautiful piece of equipment to have.

As you can see there has been a degree of angst on this particular thread. I would googlr fot eh model number for comment and any problems. If persistent problems seem evident do some more digging. The problem may be widespead or it may be isolated instances. Assume that they will have no doubt sold thousand that a few customers with problems will be well withing normal manufacturing tolerances. If there is wholesale problems on a number of sites youwill need to make the call its your dough

Paul
I think you have made your point. as I pointed out earlier we all have out horror stories for most brands. the level of service often depends upon the first point of contact and how they respond to your problem. Think how would you would respond to an angry customer if your world had just fallen apart (say dumped by girlfriend or some other personal disaster). If you say that you could maintain your equilibrium under those circumstance either you are JC reincarnated or full of BS. We all have our bad days until youve had kids you do not really know what a bad day is.
I agree unltimately the corporation is responsible but to keep on bleeting about it P**Ses everybody off. we have heard so do not get all defensive we are here to help people with technical problems not save the world from itself. thats for religious zealots out to save the world, speak to them.

I would worry if it was likely to kill you otherwise be thankful and like the rest of us put it down to experience. It took Segate a decade to live down its poor quality in the late eighties. TEAC had a great name in audio but chased the consumer market at the cost of quality and now best known for computer drives.

There is such a thing about alerting others about avoiding costly errors.
It is mental health that is involved, not just money.
Toshiba is special; I have been around for a while and I have never encountered a more evil corporation, absolutely bent on keeping your money and screwing you without any scruples.
There is no "campaign" just a warning
The list of the units which are defective from the factory is PUBLISHED
Those models WILL fail and YOU will be screwed, no ifs or buts.
Just because others worked in the past, it behooves all to buy other brands.
Anyway, he's got a good heart to remind us what Toshiba did a while back.
I had forgotten about Toshiba until now.
I'm sure he'll learn if he wants to become a regular.
Zzzzzz the only times campaigns like this work is when there actually is a company which produces bad products....

one noteworthy mention: apple being forced to give a 50 dollars of apple credit for every 50 dollar battery that had to be replaced due to apple ipods which were inherently faulty.....

99.9% of the time these consumer 'conplaints' is when the customer is at fault and they dont realise it...either because theyre self centered, think the world is there to please them or because theyre only just smart enough to know how to complain.....

Good luck with a campaign that wont work...

TOSHIBA IS THE CRUMMiEST laptop computer - stay away!!

Why would anybody who reads what others are saying still bother with Toshiba is a mystery.
It is NOT one person, it is hundreds, with eerily similar stories.
Here is another:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I too own a Toshiba and have had the same experience. They finally, after months of arguing with them about repairing it, replaced the hard drive on my Toshiba Pro Satellite 6100 (a $2,200 laptop) and now today it has apparently burnt out again. I will call them and I am sure I will only hear how they are out of warranty and how I will have to pay to fix it.

Until I saw your complaint on Complaints.com, I did not know anything about the lawsuit in the States, but I will look into it now.

Thanks for sharing your nightmare with Toshiba and I hope to tell all of my friends about this scam too.

I felt then, as I now do even more, that this was not limited to my
single laptop but rather part of a bigger scam. I will look into it and see if there is anything else we can do to remedy this rip off. Perhaps bringing those jobs back to the USA and not outsourcing them to Istanbul, Turkey, would be a start since we have no recourse on people in Turkey.

Thanks again and I wish you well in a campaign to stop any sales we can for this scamming, lying, cheating company.
Why would any sane person consider buying a TOSHIBA laptop?

Toshiba Notebooks Get a Fix From UPS.HA HA
Do you need this?
Familiar brown trucks now also deliver notebooks to central UPS site for quicker repairs.
Edward N. Albro, PC World
When your laptop needs repairs, sending it through the United Parcel Service of America has always been a fast, reliable route to the manufacturer--but now, your Toshiba laptop can stay with UPS for a fix.
The guys in brown shorts who visit innumerable businesses every day won't be taking a screwdriver to your notebook. Instead, it goes to a central repair facility in Louisville, Kentucky. Most customers will get their laptops back the next business day after they ship it, says Joe Karcher, Toshiba's director of service-planning logistics.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT ELSE WOULD HE SAY??

WHY SELL GARBAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE?

The arrangement with UPS does not apply to other types of Toshiba products, such as cameras and projectors.
Ion thermals right
you seach any company and you will find people who have been provided with a totally inadequate level of service. The Libretto filled a need for my use. While for non mobile computers I would normally recommend a generic build when it comes to mobile they are just that and if you client travels widely overseas a proprietary is really the only way to go. second level units are ok for local users but if it karks it overseas who do you talk to.

if you asked me I would advise everybody to avoid HP for arrogant unhelpful support. Not to mention their computers are a proprietary name. I had a problem with a HP printer (USB connection) and had a problem the usual driver reload then to HP site to get suitable problem fix download. Followed the process including the registry edit that would not allow me to remove the necessary entries. A email to hp support spelling out what I had done ellicited a reply that insinuated that I had no command of the English language (born in London live in Australia and write technical specifications and a lapsed MCSE) and that I should just reload the driver. Why bother if the previous attempts had failed even after auto uninstal and then the manual uninstal. This attitude is against my experience albeit some time ago on a Canon unit the Oz support was very good quick and with a fix . I think some suppliers hope there are not to many problems and their support can be token and certainly lacking in any credibility. But we all ahve our good and bad experiences. You just need to make a judgement at the time and perhaps do a seach about your particular model since the multinationals can be supplying for anywhere in the world and each has is own quality culture. one may be good and another plant turns out disasters.

my experience with toshiba has been good. The fact that these proprietary brands advertising aside keep selling suggests that they are making enough friends in the short to medium term just hpe it does not fail after 2 or 3 years.
