I agree with Supreet, it is not worth the money to pay 300 bucks more over Geforce 6800 GT just for 50 frame per sec in newer games or less. I would have buy it if Geforce 7800 GTX offer twice the performance over Geforce 6800 GT but it is not even close to that. If R520 can deliever twice performance as Geforce 6800 Ultra for the same price as Geforce 7800 GTX, I'm going to get it. Otherwise I will waste 3-4 months waiting for it when I can buy Geforce 6800 GT OC right now. Let hope R520 is all that.

They cannot do it.

Becoz in my opinion ATI/ Nvidia ask Game Developers to make games that would fully take the advantage of the hardware, so that they would label it as "HL2" optimizes for ATI X800 series or "DOOM-3" optimizes for 6800 Series.

However, if they do make it, then it would be a wiser step.
actually in my opinion, bot ATI and Nvidia have confused the market by bringing in SLI.Crossfire. IT will always lead to constant comparison with 2 less expensive cards in SLI and the not so great perfomance gain by a single new generation card like the 7800 GTX.
While the fact is that only newer cards running in SLI will even approach 100% improvement over a single card. BUT nobody or very few will buy 2 of the new card to run in SLI/crossfire when it carries a cosmetic $$$$ price tag. SO by the time it becomes mainstream there'll be newer meaner hardware out there.
THe only way to control this is perhaps to delay the launch of newer cards by a sizeable period. SO taht game makers can fully exploit existing hardware instead of trying to push their games as NEW hardware ready , which is a pure marketting gimmick.
Exactly Thermalfreak, two 6800Ultra's in SLI cannot give you performance gains more than 30% and 35% MAXIMUM., or if it would give u a performance of more than 30%, then definately a game is optimized to take full use of Nvidia cards/ Drivers etc.

Although two 6800Ultra's in SLI I believe would be slightly better than one 7800GTX, especially in real world

When they (ATI/ Nvidia) release something new, I expect it to be atleast 40% faster than older Gen. cards. No way they should charge $600 for new s**t.

I have always beleived that the SLI/Crossfire MVPU solutions are ahead of their times... just like they were 5 years ago when 3DFx introduced them. It will take a long time before games actually need MVPU and it'll take even longer for hardware to catch up with the hype and justify spending twice as much but not getting anywhere near twice as much perfomance.
Well voerall performance, its as good as two 6800 ultra is sli in real end performance....its a good boost since the release from last year, nothing too great....i wanna see the r520 come out eventually of course

Performance gain is justified !

I do believe that the performance gains is about right for a 24 Pixel - Pipeline card, but I was expecting much more, as a new core doesn't always means increase in the Pipelines, as there are few more technological advancements also.

The other thing I feel about 7800GTX is SLI, its looks not-so powerful in SLI even. As the end user's are going to pay almost twice the money for 7800GTX in SLI, the performance is no where near the double, not even to 30% gains, although the gains are most prolly the same like as 6800UItra in SLI, that's limited to 30~35% overall performance.

I dont know why 7800GTX is so much hyped, but if R520 is going to perform the same as 7800GTX, then buying 7800GTX or R520 shouldn't be a good idea, as 6800GT or X800XL are going to give u best performance for almost half the price, and still is 100% future proof. But if anyone of you are upgrading from very old card or getting a new rig altogether I'd say just grab the 7800GTX as it will be beneficial for future games and future games will take complete advantage of it, hence it will serve you for longer period. But if u have already 6800GT/ Ultra, X800XL/ X850XT PE, then you must consider Next Generation cards, that will have 32 Pixel Pipelines.

I think Nvidia released 7800GTX just to let everybody know that its a "New Generation Card", as the performance gains over older generation cards is not much, especially in Benchmarks

Since, its faster than 6800Ultra, so it would be good for the user's who likes to benchmarks their systems. I would also like to say that 7800GTX is 6800Ultra on 'Steroids', just like we see 9800XT, surely 9800PRO was on 'Steroids'.

But, that's G70 for you
