all i can say is wait for Windows Longhorn (for the most of us) Linux on the other hand go right ahead and use it(developers of drivers etc)

Troy, one more thing, the '64-bit train' or whatever you said hasn't started [roperly yet, the Athlon 64s are a kind of half-way house between 32-bit and 64-bit. The only true 64-bit CPU is the Itanium. And besides, do you see hoards of people buying Windows x64: No. So your 64-bit CPU is essentially a 32-bit CPU with a few 64-bit registers.

interesting quote there

a little history , ever heard of an alpha processor , even the memory structure for the itanium is modeled after the compaq( DEC ) 64 bit processor. there are several 64 bit processors on the market. and i run windows server 2k3 64bit. and more people will probably buy into windows 64 bit when drivers start becoming readily available for it.

also you fail to point out why the itanium was so unsuccessful. because of the fact it forced companiees to upgrade all software to 64 bit, with no backwards compatibility. if you remember when microsoft first anounced 64 bit windows it was going to be solely for the itanium. til they realized how small of a market was available to it.

just my 2 cents

Why are there always so many arguments, if someone says something you don't think is right, say so, but don't go around insulting people or their hardware, I could go around insulting your rig Troy, but I don't.

So seriously, don't have a go at other people's choice of components, because judging from your choice of 2 6600GTs over a 6800 GT, you don't have a clue; just a bit of advice, don't go round being hypocritical and having a go at other people's computer knowlegde when yours isn't up to scratch.

boy u sure were not smart buying them 6600 boards, they aint gonna last you when a couple of regular 6800s certainly will., btw just to let you know the system u see below is not what im using now as im on a laptop gaming now, the system below will be sold for a system i will build with either a 130nm 3500+ or Venice/Sandiego A64 3500/3700/3800, PC 4800 DDR Dual Channel from OCZ, 480 gigs storage(SATA 2 Interface support), Flashed ATI X800XL (Depending on motherboard Dual X800XLs flashed, PCI Express 4/1x based sound card (when will they utilize them newer slots?)(SATA Optical Drives), Monster Cooling so i can push the CPU above 3.0 ghz(very possible with 3500+ 130nm.)Cooling for vid card to push VPU/Ram up to extremes, Cooling for ram to push higher than 9.6GB/s data rate with lowest timings possible). Case with 120 MM fans from Thermaltake and Watercooling/ liquid metal cooling)

Always put your Brain n Gear before you put your Mouth n Motion! If what you said was even half true, there wouldn'y be 2 VG Chip makers out there fighting for the Crown! And when enough Real World Gamer's and Tech Heads like myself reads your post, you'll be answering Email's for the next 6 months!! Now go like a Good Boy and do some Research!! Oh by the way,you really need to Get on the AMD64 Train before you'll need a Real World Graphics card, your still running Ancient Hardware Man!!
with such a company like Nvidia, they could cause Ati to shut down, but what would the consumer have to pick, also if Nvidia keeps on they path they are if they ever become the only Vid Chipmaker, they cant leave their prices at the lows they have right now or they would go out of business, but since they are the only maker of chipsets, in order to make ends meet they would have to jack up the prices and that is certainly not good for the consumer, then the consumer would just stop buying nvidia based products due to the quality they have become( Monopolizing products degrades all qualities) due to the prices. also i think its not worth the time to have anything brand new in the graphics market as SLI/Crossfire are still in the infant stages. Oh just to let everyone Know, Stick with your current graphics boards if you have a 9600XT 256, 9700 Pro/9800Pro/XT, 5700Ultra 5900 Ultra, 6800 Series, X800 Series, as they will run even the latest Unreal Engine and other games great-awsome.
