Antennas are around £80.00 then you need some other things to go with it, the total for one station is around £140.00
having the right location is more important, Im lucky.. Im in the town centre in a fairly high building, the other half is on a hill on one side of town on the outskirts.
My mate is on the other side of town.. but more towards the center then the outskirts.

Honestly its not that hard, but its fairly costly to start up, the phones arent cheap..

If mobile were as costly as they were year ago , then year I would do it, but frankly my mobile costs me around £60 per year so its not worth it for me unless I was selling it.

actually someone started up the mobile phone network that youre using.. they are not hard to do and its actually quite simple - taking into account that home computers and wifi is getting bigger and bigger around the world. you just got to know what to look for and how it works.. lots of techie stuff to some.. easy to others..

oh and range.. well, lets just say my one antenna covers up to 35 miles. and for the FCC reg's its fine. as its public asigned freq range... same as all the other wirless devices.

I actually don't have a cell phone. To spendy to be worthwhile. Well of course someone started the network, some point in time. But if it was so easy to start your own reliable mobile network that would cover you over your entire area of travel, more people would be doing it. Apparently it can't be all that easy. I know I dont have the money or places to put an antenna up every 30-35 miles to cover me either. 30-35 Miles that must be a pretty decent antenna, or really good location? Because I'm sure if the setup fees weren't outrageous I an many other people would setup a antenna in your backyard an use it for free around town an save yourself money over time.

"If something sounds to good to be true, it probably is" is what first comes to mind.

2nd, Vonage comes to mind (world wide VOIP provider)

3rd: FCC Rules/Regulations that not many people know come to mind.

If it wasn't that hard for someone to start their own wireless company, people would be doing it all over the place. An honestly, Ive never heard of a single person setting up their own cellphone network. Besides, without any major antennas how far of range do you plan on getting from it? I don't imagine you can travel out of state, an reach your "home made" cellphone network. An with services such as Vonage, or Skype you can get free or near free long distance services with any high Speed connection. So really why would you go through all the trouble an setup cost of setting up this hardware, when you can get free or very cheap services of a similar type from another company?

VOIP actually doesn't suck down that much bandwidth, and you can QoS it so any downloads/uploads going through your network don't drop your calls. The biggest problem that I have with VOIP itself is the lack of 911 should your power go out. There's a few alternatives, but nothing that works as good as an old landline phone.

thats cool, basicly vonage in a way?

Im iffy about VOIP as i would imagine it would slow your net down.

Starting your own mobile telephone/cellular network.

Are you sick of Mobile phone bills? Do you get a real service? Do you want to make free mobile phone calls?

Did you know its really easy to setup your own cell phone network now using traditional Wi-Fi technologies?

As some of you may know I am now running a WISP (wireless service provider) and found as an added value service, I can offer Mobile/cellular telephones over the network with real telephones. Its quite good in that the internal and other VOIP telephone can call each other for FREE. and with the systems I am using, We can even give real land line numbers - meaning that people calling the network phone users, only pay a standard call rate local to that number, no matter where you are in the world.
I'm not sure if there is anything like this in the USA,

So basically, ring the network and any other number in the world and save loads. Simple and easy to set up, So why are you not running your own cell phone service?
You need.
One to three houses to use as base stations, A good AP (with support for lots of users), Sector antenna and directional antennas (to link homes), A high speed Internet connection -(2MB supports 100 users)

Advertise and away you go, The other good thing, is that you can use the system to pipe Internet- you can be an ISP - By the time you sell the phone service and the Internet access, you will have paid for the kit that you need and even give you self some wages out of it.

There are a few mobile phones on the market in the US that support this, but I think that you would have to contact me for the full details as its not the most simple of things to setup.. And no I'm not offering a how to for free. But the Idea is there for you to take on.. Just don't stamp on my turf
