Unforunatly no service pack can fix the flaws inherent in windows xp's graphical sub system and user interface. Vista is a step forward and if M$ does a good job optimizing it then it could really take off, especially with full 64bit support which even xp pro "64" lacks. Maybe hardware companies will actually make those crazy 64 bit drivers if its for a brand new operating system and not just 2 characters stuck on to one that we all know and secretly despise.

Hmm, I just think its a waste of money, at least when it will be released.. I know that worldwide XP has become a standard now after years of time and money put into making this a reality today, and now when that is settled they're making another OS? I smell an attempt to make cash, windows xp could look like windows vista with the fix of a new service pack, no probs.
but but, time will tell how this all will work out, all i know is i dont feel like spending another 1000 bucks upgrading my system when i recently did it.

Well you just know that there'll be like massively cracked versions of it just floating around on Bittorrent, months after it's initial realease. So no more worrying about DRM, lol.

while the OS isn't new from the ground up DX10 is,

its integrated into the OS differently as well. This was done.... yeah probably to help sell more copies, but also to just make it better.

CPU magazine said they felt windows was actually more responsive because of the strength of the video card now being leveraged.

also it appears super XP really likes saying DDR RAM!
dude.... you can just say ram.... the only people these days who aren't running DDR are farts like me with my old celeron 1.1ghz and fools who bought into RDRAM and haven't upgraded.

sander you usually have valid points but you seem to enjoy embellishing the facts to make things more pointed and more dramatic.

you said nothing about how they are still tweaking it (or if they aren;t, you didn't say that either) being that it is still a BETA and there won't be a code freeze for several months.

personally, i'll be keeping XP pro on my main system (to be built later this year) until vista is affordable, and be downgrading my current rig (yes the 1.1. celery with pc100 ram) to 98se, which when fully patched, i had no real issues with except for yearly reinstalls to keep it up to speed.

anyone try linspire..... how bout you review that sander? ok vista sucks....I agree simply because of the DRM they are putting in there which i think it is totally crap. (say goodbye to being able to copy CD's and listen to them on your pc unless it checks for the licence every time) how bout an alternative?

i hear the new vista driver model is totally new. the nvidea drivers for it were 2.75MB as opposed to the 18 or so they are with xp.

for the silent majority of us still in dialup thats good news.

CPU magazine (source for above statement) also said that on the systems they had it felt actually more responsive, not less.

but please try to keep in mind that you are still running BETA software. inevitably there will be some issues, and hopefully it will but much more optimised........hopefully.......
