Hi,

I have a vaio v505D and having problem with AC power on and off. Local repaired shop says that the AC
adapter is okay. But
1. labtop wont boot without battery
2. when running with battery the AC power is showing on and off(charging an discharging) and the battery
went down fast
3. sometimes using the touchpart will trigger (2)

I am totally clueless so does the local repair shop

Could any body help?
Josh, thanks for getting back to me. I just spoke with the store manager, who is going to review the problem with the service manager. Not sure where that will lead, but at least I will know how many battles I will have to fight - Sony - MicroCenter and possibly WarrantyTech(the extended warranty). I believe at this point my best bet is Micro Center. I did not ask the technician to repair the computer. He was only suppose to back up my email and files. At the time I thought it was great service support. It was one the reason I had purchase from that store rather than the regular mass chains like Best Buy or Circuit City.

Anyway, please stay in touch regarding any additional complaints regarding the Vaio notebook power problems.

Thanks.
BJ-

According to Sony you no longer have a warranty. Once the comp has been opened by a non-sony tech, that's it. No more warranty.
Did the tech who opened your notebook inform you that doing so would void your warranty? If not, then you have grounds for legal action. Or at least grounds to threaten legal action to get them to do warranty work.

The best alternative would be to find a computer guy who knows notebooks. And is good with solder. I'd do it for you, but I live in California.
Please let me know if anyone has come up with a solution to this problem. First time I had problem was 7 months (Nov 03) after purchasing 4/03). Problem was resolved at store where I purchased, so I did not send back to Sony. Problem occurred again recently. Sony won't honor warranty because of supposedly "liquid damage" and they said the box has been opened. I have "Never spilled anything on my laptop." When I stressed that point, they came back and said that the box had also been opened by unauthorized repair service. That part may be true because the technician at the store did note that he had repaired the receptacle when I had taken it back to the store for a backup. I had originally been told by the store that they could not repair, but they would back it up for me. The store was willing to support me with Sony's claim of liquid damage, but they are starting to get defensive about the repair that the technician made when the problem first occurred. Now I uncomfortable with having them check out the computer. Sony sent it back to me because I would not authorized $1267 repair estimate. Have not unpacked it and do not no where to turn at this point. Manufacturer's warranty expires 4//14/04. Don't know what I should expect with the extended warranty.

Please help. I'm appreciative of any suggestions.

Thank you.
No, it's not under warranty anymore. I only had one year warranty on it, and it's has been 1 yr & 2 months =( I tried calling up a couple of pc repair shops but they said they do not work on sony laptops cuz sony doesn't distribute their parts.

If it is that new, it may still be under warranty? Did you buy an extended warranty where you purchased it? If not, then try a pc repair shop. But most won't touch a notebook due to the oddities of the different makers. If you know anyone who can work on a pc, and you can give them the schematics from Sony, they should be able to help you. $800 can buy a nice new one. That's about all the answers I have for you. Sorry
If you are adept with a soldering iron. And tearing down and putting back together a notebook, then you can do as I did when that happened to my notebook. Just solder the dam thing! Works great as long as you're careful not to burn the mobo.
Have you considered spending the money on a new laptop? Sony has been a VERY bad experience with many of our clients.

My laptop's A/C adopter is not working. I sent the laptop and service people told me that the connection on the mother board is bad. Sony is charging me $800 to replace the motherboard. Is there any other way to fix this laptop? Can't i just buy a replacement part and have someone install it? Thanks!
