It'd work great... and then it'd work horribly. As soon as it went dumb, I'd pull out the ball, clean it, and put it back in. Then the dumbenings started happening more frequently, and I got quite annoyed. So I broke it (on purpose), and my parents bought me an optical mouse (for my 866 MHz Dimension 4100) back when the three button Microsoft ones costed $30.00.<br /> <br /> Then, much, much later on, my parents converted their old Dimension XPS D300 into a computer for my grandfather, and since it had two PS/2 ports on it, they decided to spare my good ol' Grandpa the agony of a ball mouse, considering optical ones were so cheap. Somehow they arrived on a 5-button, Kensington Optical Elite. When they asked me to set up that computer to run Windows XP on it, I got to feel that mouse, and uh...<br /> <br /> ...I've purchased two total -- one for my lappy, and one for my desktop. They are sooooo comfortable, and the side buttons are in the <i>perfect</i> place. They're capable of being pretty darned sensitive, unfortunately, the Kensington drivers really suck. Anyways, the mice cost me $15.00 and $20.00, respectively. I've also fallen in love with those space-saving <a target="_blank" href="/action/r/http://www.dell.com/">Dell</a> keyboards now... Ouch. I remember when I went to optical. For a brief time, about four months later, I had to use a Ball mouse to get Linux set up with drivers. My mobo was a bitch. Either was, I would move the mouse, and the cursor would hardly move due to slippage. Sick.
