Hm... I'll be checking them out on Thursday when I go out to buy more fans in hope I can overclock more. Possibly more power. Unless 450W is enough for me to maintain what I have now (in sig) and go further with extra two normal fans.

But yeh. Thanks. I hope I can find something cheap. XD

Great points David. Good luck on your Dual Core purchase. And AMD already dropped prices big time, that is why I went & bought a X2 4600+ for cheap

Old topic but meh, I haven't been on for a while. Just felt like making an input.

I personally prefer AMD over Intel and ATI over nVidia, but at the end of the day, I don't care what PC I have, as long as it runs what I want reasonably, I'm happy.

I always thought AMD was great. And was right. And now, Intel brings out their new monster. Now I think both AMD and Intel is great. Intel has just done something, what many of you would say, amazing, and AMD has held strong grounds and I believe they still do now. Even if AMD's latest is outperformed by Intel's, it doesn't mean bad business for AMD. There's the consumers who stick with AMD only because of bad experience with Intel and refuse to change back, even after such positive events, then there's others who would just buy the cheapest thing they can (once the prices drop), and of course, you have those looking for a quick upgrade. Since they already have the parts, just boom, bang, done.

For my ATI and nVidia, I don't know. I like both companies. Some features I wish ATI had that nVidia did, and vice versa. Otherwise, both companies are good and going strong. Of course, until lately with ATI's merge with AMD, it'll be interesting to see what they pull out soon in the future.

For me, I'm a juggle between the performance and price. Now, a lot of you would say, there, Intel it is. Since right now, Intel holds the performance per price. But I'll still probably go for AMD when I upgrade, most likely, but it might not be true, depending on the prices here in Australia once everything is in act.

So here's how I see it. In benchmarks, Intel definitely has beaten AMD in almost every test. But AMD has come close. I mean, come on, 20+ extra, sure, it's a lot, but still, that's close, and even if it was beaten badly, consider Intel not there, the results of AMD alone for todays needs, that's pretty good in itself. Now, just topped off with Intels. Simple.

So, I go to upgrade. I want to go dual core since it'll be faster than single and it obviously has its advantages. Now, Intel is coming out cheap. That's pretty cool. And AMD plans to drop prices. From one post somewhere, they say AMD will need to drop prices below Intels if they want to still make money. That's what I'm looking at. If AMD doesn't drop low enough, hey, guess it's Intel. If they do, I guess it's AMD. Mainly because the performance of AMD is still very good and it'll still pretty much do what I want. And that's all the matters to me. I'm spending less for performance that I know is good in which I won't regret.

That's how I see it. I know, it's not a very strong point, but hey, it's just how I do business and see things.

And that would probably the 4th type of person who'll still provide AMD with income (as I've already listed three earlier). How to describe it, I guess, someone who wants to buy something as cheap as possible but still have overall great performance, regardless if something is better, as long as it works, it works. Right?

Off topic, but for now, I'm happy with my S939 and all. It was the cheapest available to me with decent performance. So I'm happy. My next upgrade will be if it doesn't handle Supreme Commander well and Novalogic's "to be announced" game, I'll go for the dual cores, as mentioned earlier.

No more X2 4400+ anymore for S 939. They sold out completely. And the funny thing is that there is still a massive demand for them. So I went for the X2 4600+ for only an extra $15. Now that is a deal & a half.

Check out THG's "Officially sanctioned" breach of the INTEL NDA with the new Kentsfield Quad Core here

http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/09/10/four_cores_on_the_rampage/

You can't tell me this isn't a "last ditch" attempt to push up their share price after the smart shareholders have realised their overinflated Pentium 4 inventory isn't moving ... at all.

AMD's price reductions have obviously had an effect - INTEL PANICKED !!!

Well with the competition from the little Green guys on the cheap end of the market their Core 2's aren't moving fast enough either ... or should I say ... they havn't got enough stock? Whatever ...

Instead of firing another 10,000 workers, they decide to officially leak their quad core (THG are practically owned by Intel anyway) and obviously will push it to market quickly ... end result of this will be more confusion ... and two high end products competing with each other ... from the same manufacturer.

That seems a bit stupid in terms of a sale strategy doesn't it??

Must be panic over there with the execs running out of patience becuase they can't fix the finances quick enough?

Add to that the obvious poor performance on some of the benchies that clearly show problems with communications between the seperate cores on the "Die" and my money will sit in my pocket while the AMD Quad core with HTT gets refined properly.

If I were on INTEL's board I would fire the Marketing Department ... oh ... sorry ... they did that last week.

End result utter confusion for Mr Joe Public.

AWESOME CHIP NEVERTHELESS !!! < Bow's with Respect >

I have 2 more X2 upgrades on the way now - man, the prices just dropped again !!
Lowest price I can get a Conroe (ES6300) here is A$300 ... for that I can get an X2 3800+ and the mobo and RAM. Oh ... the wait for the Conroe cpu is also x weeks ... end of whenever. Lets not talk about the Intel Mobos either ... expensive...

Intel's Paper Launch means AMD is CLEANING UP !!!

Gotta love those little green guys !!!
Maybe I will get a Conroe once they actually get here ...

I don't mind the discussion of the technical, corporate, and monetary merits of Intel and AMD in this topic.
What grinds my jaws is the viewpoint that if someone disagrees they are a heretic of some type and worthy of holy war. The other issue that I have is the "one size fits all" mentality of some. If one size did fit all, then we'd all be wearing mu-mus, and condoms would come in one size, vs. the large, huge and gargantuan sizes available now (hows that for marketing?).
Mike L,
You are completely out of line, because you have a bad habit of mixing up your own opinions about me & expressing them on HWA's threads completely without merit.
I really thought you were a cool CANADIAN, but now after this crap you posted about me, you are not IMO.

My QUOTE: on that thread Mike L,
I applaud Intel for there new attitude & competitiveness & wish both AMD & Intel great success in 100% healthy competition & amazing technological innovation.

G.G,
I know you do not mean what you said. And that thread "A little worried for AMD? No, not really?" was not created to demean Intel of anything, I was really surprised with those unofficial "FACTS" I presented, and thought I get people's opinion.

There is no better place then HWA to get some good info & opinion from educated non-bios people.

Even A_Pickle had a great opinionated response without demeaning my thread or anything which I presented via QUOTE. Thank U
Well I've skimmed through the posts subequent to my own and shane and wow... alot of fanboism.. but that was very prevalent prior so no shocker there. Shane before I comment on the replies to date, I would just like to say 1 thing in connection to our previous conversation on money and innovation and the link between the twix. Intel at present is HUNTING ppl in the graphics arena as it's been remoured that they are making a strong push to re-enter the discrete graphics market. Now whilst we both can agree that money isn't everything, can you not now agree with me that when there is a difficiency in some technical area that the 1 with the most money to hire the best of the best, or the best of what's available isn't increasing their chance of success? I mean intel has to date hired so great players from Creative (whom make excellent albeit niche workstation gpus) and other I can provide urls for. In my sight intel lacks the know how and are employing the 'best' money can buy to ensure their future in this division. Just a thought.

To the others flaring and flaming and getting upset. Ppl, face it, Intel pwns all AMDs bases at present in the 1 and 2 socket market. AMD is the champ in the 4 and 8 socket arena. AMD's price reductions I have never seen as desperate nor fruitless. And I am happy to see Intel driving AMD to once again produce results. I am also the recently happy owner of a S939 4400 Toledo which has become affordable to me due to these reductions. I noticed someone fighting over cost of upgrade and amd vs intel being the same. Let's face it, AMD is a cheaper upgrade solution now and has been over the past year. The 939 allowed for dual core upgrades without a revision of the mobo as intel and even the AM2 whilst like Inte requires a platform revision , the cpus are cheaper so overall it'll be a cheaper upgrade. Intel however is the better performer and perhaps is the better cost-performance upgrade. If you're doing office, AM2 will be your best option over intel. For performance intel wins. Everything is relative to ones needs.

Lastly, someone was making the point of intel quad cores being in the wild and AMD quad not. I heard it's because AMDs 65nm process still has some revisions before they can get them to run at stock voltages at the frequencies they want. The quad cores will be manufactured on the 65nm process (this makes sense from the economics of it) and the first line of quad cores ARE NOT K8L. Sadly its suspected to have been pushed back to LATE 2007 early 2008 now. Whats interesting is that quad cores from AMD should be pushed out late this year or early the new (2007) and the 4x4 platform will be out by that point.. so maybe jes maybe the 4x4 should be renamed as 8x2 seeing as ATI will be the preferrable platform and to date they have Crossfire and not quad xfire and wel 2x4 cores is 8. Thus 8x2....

Darren,

Cool, you actually owned up to saying that you would have not made your statement if the roles were reverse in this column... LOL....

"Intel currently just doesn't appeal ... new expensive mobo, ram, cpu ... versus cheep 939 mature ASUS mobos and cheap X2's and hey" -- Darren

well.... you can say the same if you upgraded to AM2..... you can very well stick that 939 into an AM2 socket or run that DDR in the AM2 mb DDR2 slot........ So either way you go with Conroe or AM2..... you have to get all a new.... At least for a person that is on a current Intel LG775.... all they need to do is go with Conroe and mb.... they can use there PCI-e gpu and DDR2.... But unfortunately for me.... my system is a tad older and I would need to get everything a new...

Oh by the way....

"hell I remember the 4040 we trained on in sim kits, even Zilog Z80's etc ... you were in nappies then or what? I have had my fair share of both ... even a few Cryix CPU's ... forgive me !! Hell I have a Sparc Ultra 60 sitting in the shed somewhere too." -- Darren

Dont assume someones age until you know them better because assuming me to be in nappies "then" is quite stupid...... because those things you have mentioned I have seen and played with them myself. I am probably less than ten years or even that from you.

As for Intel inventory.... sure any company that has new products that are coming out they will have overstock of the current and need to find ways to clear them or remarket them in lower catagories... ATI, Nvidia, AMD, IBM, and all of them fall into the same shoe... So AMD extreme lowering prices of their current stuff means only a couple of things..... they "HAVE TO" stay price/performance competitive.... in this case only in price catagory.....As Sander has put it.... Who wants to pay for an AMD that is 50% more in price for 50% less in performance.... (something close to this).... AMD was forced to lower their price... you think they are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts just for you ??? the second would be .... all this time AMD was raking you over by OVER Charging you for their products.....

You dont have to give Conroe a try..... that's fine and cool.... You can wait for K8L..... that just dandy.... It is your money to spend... and that is the way it should be... but... if you dont give a Conroe a try.... all that means is that there will be more for someone else ...

Im one step closer to getting a E6600/E6700 at a great substantial discount.... just waiting for the other half of the process to get into place.... wooootttttt.... Just gotta wait for that at the right place and right time thing to mesh... plus it does help by knowing someone close.

My apologies for taking the bait...

I have noticed that over here in Australia (a quaint large Island in the Southern Hemisphere populated by hot women who love male geeks ... truly ... fair dinkum !!) that the Conroe CPU's are not easily had yet ( It is August the 29th now too). Probably in a year or so methinks ...

Most stores are only offering the low end models ... with many patient customers giving up waiting and going for the cutthroat AMD firesale ... the dumb one's buying the Pentium D's.

Paper Launch I say... or should we call it a Dull Paper Launch??

Guess they are thinking Joe Public will opt for the Netbust cheapies instead (taking up half the store space right out to the carpark) ... move some more tons of sad silicon ... hey ... wonder if the Ruskies will buy them ... nope ... or the Chinese ... oops AMD are already there ... damm.

Intel are going to have to write off their MASSIVE inventory ... ouch ... expensive.

I seem to remember a Value Added Management class on that topic ... Intel employees might want to polish up their resumes ... start job hunting now because I see some more "right sizing" going on again.

Hmm... what's their stock price now ... checking ...

Cripes if a company like that crashed it would wreck the economy here ... we only sell bananas and surfboards you know.

That isn't a good idea, so lets try and help them move that old stock.
Some lateral thinking might be in order too ... so don't be shy.

1. ... underclocked P4's make great media centres ... if you can wind the core voltage down a bit they are thermally quite reasonable. Re-stamp them, drop the FSB ... flog them off this way.

2. Sell them with a mobo combo plus ram (you will have to muscle the mobo makers etc ... look up previous strategy 101 ... Titled "Pressuring Partners" ... next to the file on Anti-Trust Suite (the big file).

3. Blowup the warehouse (it's probably the size of Texas now) ... claim it on insurance?? Risky ... not a good idea ... the fire might starve us all of oxygen and who knows what other chemicals are in the smoke too.

4. Fire the Intel accountants ... hire new accountant with management major / accounting minor ... the rest will take care of itself "80's Style".

5. Pray ... no ... not Prey ... "Jeez" ... woops ... sorry.

6. Sell them as "Plug and Play" room heaters ... heh heh

7. Hmmm ... Attractive Jewelry ... note to marketing ... buy or "Partner" fashion company ... start new "tech dress trend".

8. Sell and package them in base of USB Coffee cup warmers ...damm ... burned out the USB port again ... bad monkey. Cancel that.

Run out of ideas ... NN
