Here is my post having the same problem, but i went straight for the dvi port on the monitor and sure enough thats what it was.

Im sure you know this but the pc has to be off, or rebooted after monitor it hooked up or the dvi port isnt activated. meaning if the pc is on and you plug in the dvi cable the monitor wont show a signal.

I used my Samsung SyncMaster 930B monitor with my current DVI cable that I am currently using as I type this and its in the only DVI port on the monitor and video card.

lol I thought that was the monitor in question as well. That's why I was so sure. I guess I should have confirmed that.

That is one thing I did not try out of all the things I did. I guess I can try that. Then if it works, then its the DVI port on the card. Now Im hoping thats the case. If so, gives me more of a better reason to upgrade the video card.

hey Crash,

evga 6600LE for $94 I would say a 6600 GT, but that's like $125. I guess it really depends on your budget.

So I was thinking of a 6800GS (AGP) for my dad. But my mom isnt quite comfortable forking out $165 for the video card and ~$89 for a cpu. (I bought him a new board) I would prefer it to be nVidia. Any sugestions? He has an nVidia FX5500 right now. I need one with a DVI port.

You and me both. Gives me a reason to have him upgrade to something better than a FX5500. Im thinking a 6800GS like mine, but that will bottleneck the computer.

No problem. Next time though just condense them all into one post.

I have tried taking my Monitor downstairs and hooking up the DVI on the video card in question and no dice. I have tried both my DVI cable and my dad's. Was a no go. So Im pointing my finger at the DVI port on the video card. *sigh* Now, to convince my mom into buying a $165 video card.

Edit: By the way, all cards in this house are either AGP or PCI. Yes PCI. Its my brother's Dell.

lol Yea, I didn't think about the part of not being able to boot into safe mode without seeing the screen. Sorry.

Well, if you hook up your other monitor to that video card in question, (assuming that the other monitor can accept DVI since you are using a DVI cable you already had), then you will know that it is a problem with the video card's DVI port, if your old monitor doesn't work. Another option would be to take that card out and put it in your other machine and test it with the old monitor, (assuming that they are both PCI-e. If not, scratch that.) It sounds like you wouldn't even have to change drivers to try that, either.

I only have VGA to DVI.

Safe mode was a no go too. I figured it would be as I could not see what I was doing.
