How about a 6800oc? It was a great card at the time and you can unlock the pipelines with Rivatuner.
While looking at your system specs, I noticed you stated you were planning on upgrading your RAM.

I think you best bet would be to upgrade your entire system for about $180 bucks
you can get a AM2 4200+ 2.2ghz dual core, with 2GB of DDR 800mhz memory, and a decent mobo Gigibyte/MSI/ASUS, with a 160GB SATA HD. That would be the best route to go and give you overall system performance.
I would sugest a 6600GT or even beter a 6800GS (most unlockable to GT speeds) anything higher than that and your CPU would choke it. If you want an ATI go with the X800 series or the X1600 series.

All cards I listed are AGP compatible and should be pretty cheap by now whether used or new.

I am only going to spend what I can afford. Also, I am not running Vista so it shouldn't be such a problem. Just about all the better graphics cards on eBay at the moment are 512MB cards, which is overkill on my system and they might not work with my motherboard (I definitely can't afford a new motherboard).

I am also going to try and get 2x 1GB sticks of DDR 333 RAM, and at least a thermaltake 430W PSU.

What kind of performance will I get on my system compared to my current FX5500?
I am also going to look for a thermaltake 430W PSU both on eBay and some computer stores.

Its very low end, think integrated video on a card... It will support newer 3D features than your current card but will lack the power to take advantage of them. It may
be sligtly faster but don't expect miracles.

I am now considering the Thermaltake TR2 RX Cable Management 450W PSU which I can get for about $90 on eBay (that's including postage)

or an Antec Basiq 500W PSU which will cost me about $100 inc postage (again on ebay), which one would I be better off getting.

The 430W Thermaltake is only 8 dollars more than they Ultrix that you specced. It WILL work with your system. The X800GTO would also be a much better alternative to the 7300GT that you have found and it is cheaper to boot (88). Don't forget also that these ARE AU prices.
EDIT: I had one of these Thermaltakes, and it ran my old skt754 system (3000+, 1GB, X800XT PE). It will run yours not a worry in the world.

Thats all well and good, but remember I am on a budget and I need a PSU that will work with my system.
Also, I live in the Hunter Valley so I can't easily get to Ultimo or Auburn

Are you kidding? Go to http://www.msy.com.au and have a look at their price list. You can pick up the 7600GS 256MB AGP for only 105 or consider the X800GTO 256MB for only 88. They are both way more powerful than the 7300GT. I'd get the 7600GS personally as it is PS 3.0 and DX9.0c compliant.
As far as powersupplies are concerned...never skimp!!! MSY have 430W Thermaltakes for only 39. Itll be a hell of a lot better than that Ultrix or w/e
LEADTEK GEFORCE 7300 GT 256MB AGP 4X/8X - AU$96.00

550W Ultrix Power Supply AU $31.95

Would the 7300GT be able to run on my system. Same specs as last update. The PSU has to have 4 molex connections and suitable for my system (like the one I have mentioned above)
Hi all.

I bought a GeForce FX5500 as a stop-gap while I save up enough for a better card. Would I be able to put a GeForce 7600GS agp card in my system, with its current specs (except for a new Seagate 250GB HDD and a Soundblaster 5.1 PCI Sound Card which I also got last christmas).

I also still plan on getting 2 x 1GB sticks of PC2700 RAM. I don't wish to overclock the system though, just leave everything on stock settings. Additionally, I plan on eventually getting a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS to go with the Logitech X-530 speaker system I hope to get for christmas.
