Yeah, I found myself randomly hitting Win+Tab just to look at movies playing in Flip3D, because it looked cool ... but I never used it when I actually needed to find a window.

Big Beavis, you should be able to get it working with another key combination, you can use something like Alt+Tab or Alt+` , those both worked when I tried.

I like 3D Flip but it is more about visual appeal than functionality.

...Microsoft making something more visually appealing than functional? WTF? Sounds a bit like Apple

Switcher (Mac OS X Expose clone for Vista - http://insentient.net/ )

Wow ... that puts Flip3D to shame ... especially in dock view!

I had some troubles getting it to work on the WinKey+Tab combo (Flip3D's) until I disabled Flip3D:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-flip3d-in...ows-vista/

Very nice. Flip3D has to be about the most useless "feature" in Vista. I just hope I can get Switcher to work without a Windows key

I've had absolutely no problems with vista, except that i get an occasional blue screen error with itunes. but thats it, and its not a big deal since ionly use itunes to update my ipod, otherwise i use WMP, and i got a legitimate copy of vista ultimate free via MSDN, my dad works for intel so he gets a subscription to MSDN for free, but dont even ask me for a copy because i will not even consider giving you one, because in the states it is unlawful

2142 + Vista = Perfect.

I get (dare I say it) even slightly better frame rates on my Vista install than I do on XP Pro x64.

The only cashing issues I have with BF2142 are game related, not OS (usually PB related errors, but few and far between)

There were a few updates for Vistaq in relation to game and application performance & compatibility a few months ago. Ensure Vista is up to date and I dont foresee any issues.

BTW, most people I've seen with any major 2142 & Vista issues are using G80 based cards. Nvidia drivers are still very unstable for Vista.
ps it sounds like you were looking at a retail copy of vista. oem versions are MUCH cheaper

But it was 800 US bucks for him! Thats insane. Id hate to see what Ultimate costs for him.

Anyway. Talk to dublin about 2142 he plays it and hes on Vista full force.

As for the checking to see if sofware works with the OS, you have to do that for any OS, not just Vista.

I think Vista is awesome. There is a small similarity between it and Tiger but I like the Vista skin and set up better. The whole going through different windows thing is so cool.

Also, the price isn't actually that high. The OEM version of Home Premium is only about $159.99 CDN while the Ultimate version is $265.99 CDN. Windows XP Pro OEM is still $130+ CDN while Home is $100+ CDN. So, no complaints there.

Here in Finland, home premium was selling a couple of months ago for 550 Euros lol. Thats almost 800 N.A. bucks. Thank frik I "knew someone".

With 2 GB of RAM I would say Vista runs very smooth. I would recommended to get a 3third party disk Defrag program like Diskeeper Pro, because the windows version still after all these years doesn't cut it for one thing it doesn't even notify you any more with a time span of it's work in progress.

Compatibility issues are better than I thought they would be. Now there is virtually a compatible driver for everyone of my apps that I currently use.

All in All thus far I've not had as much trouble with vista as I suspected. I would recommend putting it on a system and testing it for your own before throwing it on your main puppy.

Thats what I have been trying to get across all along. (Save for the disk defragger) Though I do agree, it does blow in Vista. I have downloaded a trial version of Diskeeper and I am very satisfied with it. Thinking about purchasing a license.
Further more Diskk. has a unique new feature called IFAA which organizes high accessed files together on your hard disk for increased performance. While on that subject I was impressed with the "ready boost feature" I purchased a 4GB flash drive off Newegg and I was surprised to notice not much, but a bit of increase in access times and slight load times on some apps even with while running 2 GB of ram.

I retested the ready boost with 512 and yes it makes a world of difference, If your short on Physical memory.

Compatibility issues are better than I thought they would be. Now there is virtually a compatible driver for everyone of my apps that I currently use.

The games that I can run On my Laptop run the best they can. Limited factor due to the non upgradable Video card.
