EVGA guarantee there speeds free fror defect for life. This is why I will spend the $75.00 extra for a 8800 GT SSC 700/2000 over the default 600/1800. I expect ill still get a small OC on the ssc edition but i will always have the 700/2000 no matter what. From what i can see i expect a 750 2100 OC thats a 90% chance of getting that. 50% chance 800/2200. Just remember temps and cooling are everything. If you think for a second a 60c to 65c temp will run a 20% overclock stable YOUR WRONG. Please dont repeat the tolerance temps to me thats @ stock not overclocked.

One other thing. according to a local suppler I use here,PC CLUB They where asked to send back 14 of there EVGA and XFX 8800 GT ko,oc,ssc models and guaranteed full replacements to be sent back by no later then 11,21,07. Word has it , for reasons of faulty cooling. Remakes of on board coolers are said to be 100% fully shined copper with a added 20% fan speeds and added 2 ports for air flow. If this is true then the remakes should be rocking.

How about underclocking the overclocked editions? If everyone is worried about damage, then just make sure 2000mhz is not what you are set to.
Make any sense?

The only thing that matters at this point for anyone is getting one..... SO..... tell your people to get these cards out !!!!! Doesnt do anyone any good if there are NO cards for purchase.... NO money for XFX.... NO gaming nervana for US... Get that Indiana Jone's whip out of the closet and start whipping the 8800GT production line and get them out NOW.....

The video cards overclocked from the factory are Guaranteed at those speeds, while the standard versions may or may not be stable that the higher speeds. Like I stated before the factory does put a lot of work into finding the GPU's that are capable of the higher speeds and of course not all are able to overclock to such a degree. However some people are comfortable with overclocking themselves, which we understand as well.

so why should anyone pay a higher price for a pre overclocked board when usually the Non OC editions scale higher

Those statements are as far from the truth as they can be. Our factory works very hard to ensure the stability of the XFX overclocked video cards. Before they make it to the publics hand they are rigorously tested with a barrage of benchmarks and 3D applications. In fact many of our customers have found they can overclock their video cards well beyond the listed speeds. They are many reviews out there in regards to these video cards by independent review sites that can confirm the stability of our products. If anyone has any questions please feel free to PM me.

I belive the single worse thing you can do is oc a vga too much it might go sweet for awhile but always starts to degrade, but if you sell it after meh.

Relentless said:
never read the article, but HOW does this make sense?

I'm not sure that I believe this either...

There is nothing magical about 2000MHz, while I would believe that increased heat or changes to voltage that are often associated with overclocking could cause damage to electronic components I have a hard time believing that simply changing the clock frequency would cause damage. If my hardware engineering professors in college were to be believed, then running hardware at a frequency that was too fast will result in the chips "seeing" the clock signal simply as noise, you will have instability issues, you will have data corruption, NOT physical damage.

The card doesn't care what label you stick on the oscilation speed of the clock frequency, It makes absolutely no sense that it would be fine with 1950MHz but at 2000 it dies. As long as the temperature of the hardware stays within spec and you don't modify the voltage I say OC to your hearts content.

eVGA may be using different memory modules.

Anyway, if its more performance you're after, overclocking the core & shader clocks is where you'll get it, not the memory.

Leave the memory at stock - its still providing plenty of bandwith, and with the 256Mbit bus, you'd want to be clocking it really high to see any discernable difference from stock memory speeds. (as stock is fairly high anyway)

Apparently, although it is rated for a 2000MHz effective memory clock, if the card runs memory at that speed, the card eventually degrades and is eventually permanently damaged which is odd since eVGA sells Super-Superclocked editions of this card with a memory clock higher than this rated memory clock.
