Please HELP ME !!!
i have a k7s5a motherboard and it works fine with my AGP card. But there is a game Fly!II from " terminal reality" ( and also Castrol Honda super bike ) that doesn't work fine with my card !
With Directx8 the 3D environment is flashing black and white while the 2D is perfect !
With Directx7 the 3D is viewable, full of errors, and the 2D becomes slow like i have a 486 !!
My video card is a ATI-Sapphire RADEON 9100 with 128 Mb RAM DDR AGP 4X.
I have an AMD Duron 1300 MHz
256 RAM DDR
300 Watt power supply
SBLive! / basic
Directx9 and Windows XP ( i also have the latest driver for my RADEON 9100 )

Someone told me that the ECS mainboard has a " south bridge" or something like that wich is incompatible with my video card...i don't understand !!

Anyone can tell me how can i make it work with that game ?
(do i have to install the sisagp56.exe from MSI site ? )
Thanx !
Elite K7S5A & PC400 Infineon

Hi,

i've the following problem:

After exchanging my PC133 SD-RAM against PC400 DDR-RAM from Infineon my system will not boot until i switch it off and try again. Then the system is running without any obvious drawbacks. However after the system is shutdown and i'm trying to turn it on (let's say one day later) it shows the same behavior. It won't work on the first attempt. Cooling, drives, LEDs everything is working but no BEEP, no BIOS! When i have it running it is stable without any problems for hours! Memtest says the memory is fine.

Here my system specs:

ECS K7S5A, BIOS 26.06.2002
AMD 1800XP
2 x 512 MB PC400 Infineon DDR-RAM
ATI RADEON 9600 XT Firelade Edition
350 Watt PSU

I haven't tried a BIOS-Update yet. But if nothing else helps i will. Maybe it would be sufficient to set back CMOS?

Anyone experienced this kind of problem and solved it?

I would appreciate any help!
Mesut
Tom, will it load windows in safe mode? if it does then get the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website and install them in safe mode. that should help. Also, what date BIOS do you have. Mine won't recognize my xp2400 but recognizes my xp1700 fine. Hope this helps.
I have a k7s5a, and i just upragaded my processor to a 2400, which is apparently very much compatable. The mainboard detects the processor and everythings fine however my PC just lock up before loading windows unless my grafics card is disabled (My gfx card is a Geforce MX 440). This is very frustrating, i thought it may have something to do with the motherboard as the processor did come out after it did. Any advice, any at all would be helpful thankyou.

Ooops, sorry for the post before this one.

I did have many difficulties to make this motherboard working, but it did with a Duron 600mhz. Now I tried with an Athlon XP1800+ and it doesn't work at all, once again and it should work. With the duron, no problem, with the Athlon it doesn't boot at alll and I can test that many times. For this time, the graphic card is the same, such as le PSU or RAM or other things. I aggree that it is difficult to understand that some people can't manage with this card when your's works fine. Just consider that some of us can't make it work at all, even with the good drivers or good other materials. Sorry Mr Jones, it seems that this mainboard has a problem.
Reading all the nonsense pumped out by the various antagonists with regard to the Elite KS5A motherboard I can honestly say that my experience with the 3.1 version of this board suggests that most of the problems are probably induced by the person trying to install them. to suggest that the board is no good on the basis of the number of complaints in the forum is quite ridiculous. If this is the criteria used to arrive at that conclusion, how do you explain the fact that the Asus A7N8X deluxe board , which has had glowing reports by the experts, attracts more pleas for help relating to problems,( probably caused by the owners lack of knowledge, experience, attention to detail and care ), and is used in large numbers as the preferred board by the british firm "MESH COMPUTERS " who invariably, with almost every machine they turn out win a highly recommended or best buy award.

To suggest that this board does not support DDR 2700 is without doubt a "crap" statement, I have had this board for over 12 months and have used pc 100, pc 133, DDR 2100 and currently DDR 2700. ALL my pci slots are occupied and I have not had one problem with this board in all that time, I have also used two different AGP graphics cards in it with no seating problems, so no need to wiggle them about as suggested,
As far as selecting memory is concerned you would be best advised to contact Crucial on their freefone number in the UK ,where they will give you guaranteed info on the best memory for your motherboard and will supply you with their memory, which is some of the best you will get without paying premium prices, post free and at a lower price than you will pay fit it from computer dealers.

So my friends, use your brains, obtain the required info, take meticulous care and attention to detail in what you are trying to do and your chances of succeeding will be greatly increased and all the unjustified complaints about the motherboards greatly reduced.
Re: Case grounding

From recent experience in design/development of a microcontroller based commercial product my client company had to perform screen room testing to verfiy FCC part 15 compliance. We found that grounding to internal metal frame parts at all mounting holes in PWA increased radiated emissions, while only a single point ground to case resulted in lower RF emissions. So in final design of PWB I connected only a single screw hole copper pad (on board surface) to PWB inner ground plane layer. The rest are all isolated. And of course the spectral density peaks were harmonics of the CPU clock. That's the way it really works. My thoughts from my years of experience is the root cause is ground currents flowing through the metal case parts as well as throught the board, classic ground loops.
hmm k. Try this: Intall 1 stick of PC133 RAM (Samsung or Kingston). Make sure it's in 1 of the 2 black slots not the blue ones (they're for DDR)
Remove the Video Card.
Yeah.. new board...
Well, the hard drive is a 40GB 7200rpm hitachi, totally brand new and empty.
Video card is a 32mb Diamond Viper II with s-video and composite video out
RAM... not sure what brand it is, I'll have to look. Although I've tried Kingston, Samsung, and a stick I got in a Hewlett Packard PC.
(All PC-133 SD RAM)

Also tried some PC2700 RAM that the guy sent with the new board, didn't help any

Umm... the power supply is a 400w and the brand is Power Max or something like that. I also tried another power supply, from the HP computer, got the same results.

I noticed when playing on my HP computer when there is no RAM installed you get basically the same result. No video, sound, etc. So this makes me think it's a RAM problem, but I really pressed down HARD on these sticks, so I can't see how it's not connecting right...
I have no problem installing RAM in other PCs... so I know I'm doing it right.
You should be fine. According to the manual, your board supports up to an XP2600 (266Mhz Version). .XP2200's run at 266Mhz so it's not a problem.
Hopefully the new board will work fine!
