Fernando said:
I indeed think that all this is a great misunderstanding whatsoever.

I'll say it again, I'm not judging anyone, and I *refuse* even to think that Sander has/would grab a pirate copy of Crysis, anyway. This is my personal opinion and belief.

I also think that the editorial column seems most like someone leting the steam off, enraged with infamous policies of game industry. Believe me, I know by heart the situation he described, and it is as revolting to me... as a matter of fact, I've paid US$ 79,00 for my brazilian retail copy of Crysis...

What really bothered me, so that you know, were the posts of the other moderators and the way the thread was closed. It just felt a little too bitter and unresolved among them.

Well why do you think they would act in such a manner? The reason a moderator exists is to "moderate" a forums and to uphold the rules of the forum. What do you think goes through the minds of the moderators when suddenly the site owner decides to throw the rules out the window "for the sake of replies"?

I feel that there was a lack of foresight in this manner. If he really wanted replies, why didn't he broach upon a topic that was just as controversial and attractive for replies without having to resort to breaking the rules?
Yes the post could have been worded differently, i.e. the increased price in Europe will drive Europeans to pirating the game. Either way, I will still remain a constant visitor even if I don't post much. It's nice to know what's going on in the computing world while my (once) 'beast of a machine' grows older.

again... much has been made of nothing. I see lots of conclusions being drawn from mere suggestive writing. I think the underlying message in the column was agreed upon.... the strong action , folks felt must not be encouraged.
I dont think he ever did. One can protest in many ways , IF anyone wants to participate in piracy its upto their conscience. This has always been a space for healthy open-minded discussions.... I just hope we can keep it that way..... lets be nice people.
Thats a very good post, and made me smile

However, I must point out, that while I criticised the actual content of the Article by Sander, I mst say I stand by his decision to post it. (if that makes sense)

His intention was to throw a sumwhat 'taboo' subject into the air, and generate reactions from the community - so as a whole, it was quite the success dont you think?

There should certainly be the emphasis to excercise free speech here on HWA, which I believe Sander did.

That does not mean we have to agree with the content, or condone his actions in any way, but at least acknowledge the fact that he wrote the article in order to get a point across, which is obviously did.

As a long time-ish member, and active member here, I think I may extend my thanks on behalf of HWA and its members for letting us all know that we are perceived in a good fashion outside the bounderies of this Web Domain.

I'm sure others will post soon enough!

I hope you enjoy being active on this forum as much as most of the members here have, and find it informative, enlightening, helpful, sometimes firey, sometimes humorous, but definitely worth while!

Ignorance is bliss... really?

A recent editorial column here in HWA caused so much turmoil, not only at this very site but also elsewere. In spite of not posting frequently, I felt so bad about the whole situation that I felt compeled to write this.
I mostly agree with DublinGunner's, Mark Allen's and several other users who, in one way or another, heavily criticized the chief editor's article. The whole thread has just confirmed once again something I have always believed about HWA:

*this is a good place to visit on the net, with decent people on its community*

By good I donīt intend an "angels or devils" approach, but rather to say that this community is mainly made by people that have honest, judicious and decent points of view about hardware, software and all related stuff.

Also, in my humble opinion, the degree of impact of HWA in the net is considerable and information coming from HWA can potentially change the one thing that really defines and makes "the worldwide digital market": the costumer.

You see, I live in Brazil, a country where impunity runs loose, corruption among politicians and citizens run rampant and laws are bent and broken at will. However, I've chosen not to support this "loss of values" and, no matter how hard it is, I'm going just fine. Why? In part because I'm not alone in this fight, seeing how other brazilians also follow this path and, returning to the main subject, how several brazilian HWA-like sites cite or motivate users to check contents here in HWA. Therefore, HWA's good reputation potentially cause "good" changes in the mind of brazilian users as well, of course regarding its pertinent topics.

I believe everyone here has made at least one serious mistake at some point or another at their lives and what came next was highly related with how they dealt with it.

Please understand that I'm not here to judge anyone, but I would really be sad to see anymore moderators resign, and, ultimately see HWA's image tainted on the net.

Hope you understand I couldn't help, but to write this.

Best Wishes
