I always take the cd and copy all the folders and make it into an image file and keep it on my hard drive. Remember to put your serial key there as well. Beleive me, that can cause a lot of problems. Also, EA can be real EHURM sometimes. Just stating the obvious.

Brad Winter wrote:
My toddler got ahold of the disk and broke it for me. I wrote to EA hoping they would sell me another disk at reasonable replacement cost. I figured wrong. EA wanted $12.00 + shipping to send me another disk.

So I replied:
That's why I never use the original disk; it gets scratched or busted, you're out of luck most of the time. What I do is make a disk image; that's when a copy of the disk, with all the data, music, etc. is stored in a single file. Just fire up the virtual CD/DVD drive, and away you go!

Of course, because of anti-piracy that's applied to most software, that also means I have to download the "fix" from a torrent site in order for it to work. I had this issue with GTA III which I bought: original disc or disc image didn't work, tech support acted like they never HEARD of a PC, so resorted to "other sources" to fix it. Needless to say, the "fix" worked.

I swear, these manufacturers WANT piracy to flourish.

EA markets some great games. That said, I won't ever purchase another game made by them. I bought battlefield 1942 (at retail price) when it came out. My toddler got ahold of the disk and broke it for me. I wrote to EA hoping they would sell me another disk at reasonable replacement cost. I figured wrong. EA wanted $12.00 + shipping to send me another disk. Needless to say...if they're going to rape me on a disk that costs them less than a $1.00 to make; I won't play their games. Fine EA....it's a good thing for you that I'm not the kind of person who would take this so personal as to torrent all your new releases and share them with as many people as possible.

I always wait for the hard copy at the store.... especially when some time has passed after release, I look out for the really good sales... i.e. the day after thanksgiving sales... as an example... BF2142 came out in the summer... the day after thanksgiving i got it for 20.00usd then it went back up to the normal retail price the day after that... I can wait...

I had ordered the game from the Ea "Web store" but i quickly canceled it when i couldnt get my copy of Battlefield 2 Special Forces's backup copy (which i paid for from there download service) to work with the new EA Download Manager.

I refused the redownload it just because EA changed the name of there download service for the 3rd time from EA Downloader, to EA Link and now to EA Download Manager. Each time they do so if screws up the back up copy you make and it wont install. Im not wasting my bandwidth or time redownloading a game i have paid for and have backed up on disc.

I will never use there s**t download service again for these reasons. Plus EA Want to charge you for redownloading it after 6 months, yes thats right they want to charge you. If thats the way they want to work then they really deserve to lose sales to pirate copies. If they dont want my money and are gonna screw me for it, screw them

Tech support were useless and i canceled the order and ordered the game from play.com where at least i got the game cheaper and hassle free.

I would urge people to avoid Ea's download service at all costs its a rip off and a complete joke. I had thought about downloading a pirated copy but i can wait for it to arrive in the post plus Crytek deserve my money for the great game they have made i just wish they had not chosen EA to work it.

Buy it from a store and have a hard copy of the game and save yourself the trouble just remember that Crytek deserve your money for ths game.
