Thanks again guys... It's interesting to note that I can't get high bandwidth on my memory because of my low FSB. See, my mobo doesn't like anything higher than 1400, so I had to increase the multiplier. But I think that's a bad ass timings I've achieved... 940mhz at 1T, 20 RFC?! or 1150mhz at 4-3-3-3 (same AT)?! crazy...
My NB is heating up insanely... I've ordered the Shin-Etsu X23 which is by far better than AC5 (I don't know how I ended up with AC5 in the first place)... So will try reapplying on cpu and will disassemble ASUS heatpipe system (they use crappy thermal compound) to apply on NB and MOSFETs... And while I'm there, a proper lapping wouldn't hurt either. Then I will post again with 4.7GHz on air!!!

But right now, I'm after higher gpu clocks...

That is an absolute great job getting that QX9650 to 4.5ghz on air !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is just AMAZING. I think Intel did a great job with that 45nm process big time.

As far as I can remember, you might be the highest OC'r here at HWA @ air/water/other.

And to reiterate BoT...... YOU DA MAN

Thanks a bunch guys... I'm sure I can squeeze 4.65 or even 4.7 on air, there is lots of potential, I just stopped at 1.5 vCore because I want to keep the cpu for at least 8 more months...
But I have another problem: I've managed to tighten the timings to 940mhz at 4-3-3-3-1T (3-1-3-6-20 tRRD-tRC-tWR-tWTR-tRFC) or 1150mhz 4-3-3-3-2T but that only got me extra 200mb/s read speed (from 10050 to 10250) and 1ns better latency. I can't seem to reach the speeds anandtech reached ( http://images.anandtech.com/iblog/780s2ieverestq96509x4508gbB.png ). Could that be because all 4 dimm slots were filled or because each stick of RAM had 2GB?

I've also OCed my gpu to 666/2100 but can't go any further even though under load my gpu temp is not exceeding 55C... Did anybody ever play with pciex16_1 (2) frequencies?

Great news! I'm leaving my S2F board!!! I've managed to OC not only the cpu, but the ram as well. Just take a look at the screenies:

First, a shot of the mobo package:
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/S2F_1.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/S2F_2.jpg

Assembled:
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/S2F_built.jpg

Board installed:
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/S2F_clean1.jpg

GPU added:
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/S2F_full.jpg

At night:
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/S2F_nite.jpg

And finally the OC...
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/max_OC_1.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/max_OC_2.jpg

But I'm running very stable now at 4.2ghz and ram at 900mhz 4-4-3-4-1T
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/__MD__/QX9650/900_1T.jpg

Since I'm sticking to a 780i board, I've ordered another pair of ram (totaling 4gb) and another 8800gtx to make use of SLI.

Recently, Asus boards have been notoriously bad with the shipping BIOS's.

I'd stay away from a new Asus model until the BIOS is mature.

The reason i say go with X38 is because the X38 boards have mature BIOS's , and will work. X48 offers little over the X38. X38 will easily support those speeds (maybe not officially).

Even my P965 will go to those speeds (though DDR2 obviously)

Sorry to hear about your new hardware woes..... wished your outcome be more different than it is now.

I wonder if your run in with the Striker II Formula 780i has anything to do with Intel being so tight lipped to Nvidia when it comes to freely passing info about their next series of processors. Its been said that Intel had only given Nvidia enough info about the Conroe support (i.e. 680i) but when it comes to processors in the Penryn line down the road that is where they were kinda tight lipped..... and this is some what the results of it...

Hope your next board will work out.

I myself in the future will be looking to get a Q9550 or Q9450. Hope the mb (X38/X48) I decide to get will support these two and NOT end up like what you are going through.

If I won't be able to exchange to Rampage, I would get a X38 board (Maximus Formula)... But since X48 is already out, why not upgrade to the top liner?! Also, since it has a native support for 1600FSB, it might be beneficial for my future cpu upgrade. As well, it has 1200mhz RAM natively supported, whereas X38 is only 1066.
