I haven't had to buy a new monitor in a few years so didn't notice if it has.

I think it mostly depends on the brand, I bought a Dell 20" Widescreen back in 2006, and it came standard with a 3 year warranty with an option to go to 4 or 5 years for a respectable fee. And looking at the Dell site, they still have a included 3 year warranty on the current 20" Widescreen (2009W). And you can still upgrade to 5 year for $49 which I think is fair.
edit to add-
I wouldn't buy a display with only 1-year warranty (even if I could extend it by paying extra). IMO a 1-year manufacturer warranty reflects almost zero confidence in the design/build of the product.

Not a bad find, Mothow. I'll have to look into that one. It currently has a $50 rebate to boot.

Plenty of them in the egg store. This Viewsonic's pretty decent. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116104

If you don't mind bigger, you can go for the 28" Hanns G, same res. (1900 x 1200).
I'm currently using a ViewSonic 22" TN screen and I want to go up from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200 so it looks like I'm in the market for a 24" panel. I don't play tons of games but when I do I want things to look as good as possible. I want to go to a *VA type I think since they can get their response times to ~6 or so ms where the ghosting would be minimal but still have 8bit color.

One I'm considering is the Gateway FPD2485W. Any recommendations or input on this? My system is currently an Athlon XP 4400 dual core, 2gb ram with 2x 7800gt sli. I'm going to build a new system soon and give what I have now to my wife who likes to trade stocks so she wants to run multiple displays.

tyvm for any suggestions.
