You didn't state, or I didn't see the specific MB you were considering.
I'd recommend the ASUS Striker. Good layout, good OC capability, and true PCIe 16x2 support. Additionally the heatpipes work great, and you don't have to worry about a chipset fan noise or failure.

In operation, a 300 or 500 GB drive doesn't actually pull that much more power than a 80GB drive, but if power draw is a consideration then look at the Western Digital Caviar GP series drives. These drives pull less power, and run cooler, and a 500GB drive has a $150 MSRP.

I wouldn't suggest an external for gaming, As I think it wouldn't be fast enough to use as a dedicated hard drive.

Instead of that 80gb you can buy this 250gb Seagate Hard Drive from Newegg only for $64.99

If you plan on going SLI in the future then I think that the 680i LT would be a good choice. If not then I would like to suggest a P35 board. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3, although it only has 1 slot for a PCI-Express video card, it's still has very good overclocking results on quad-cores and it's only $89.99

If you wanna save a little more then a terrific 8800gt card is the MSI NX8800gt, it comes with the new Zalman heatsink that is superior to the stock heatsink, comes pre-overclocked to 660mhzcore (standard is 600mhz.)
And it's only $214.99 and add a $30 mail in rebate making it an excellent value.

Definitely more than 80gb hard drive. A decent 500gb is about US$100 these days compared to $40-$50 for an 80gb drive. Or, you can also get a 300gb for about $70.

Another use for a larger hard drive is that you can cache your game media on the hard drive, use an optical drive emulator like (freeware) Alcohol52%, and keep your game media safe.

Or Silverstone

Looks good though bro, unless you wanna wait for the 9800 series?

And I would probably have a larger Hard Divr capacity, seeing as this looks like it is going to be a gaming machine ( games now are like 7GB each )
