Using that scanner requires enabling java run-time, and I've read on other fora that it appears to install something into the kernel at some point or other.

Those could actually create a security risk where none existed before-hand.

Hi Cid. Did you do your scans in safe mode? If you start up while tapping the F8 key while you boot you will get a menu which you can access using the arrow keys on your computer. Choose safe mode. In safe mode only the minimal drivers load, and a lot of malware does not operate. Then do your AVG and Ad-Aware scans in safe mode and you might find that the threats that couldn't be fixed in Normal mode can be can be eliminated in safe mode .
Are you aware that AVG free edition only scans for Viruses - nothing else. If you buy the full version though it is quite a good malware protector. I'm picking that you have AVG free.
Did you not have a 'virus checker' before?- really, without one it is not 'if' you will catch a virus but 'when', and sometimes that 'when' is only a matter of hours.
If you are badly infected then as John Albrich has told you, reinstalling your operating system is a way to fix it.
My rule of thumb is - if you can't fix the problem in half and hour then 'reload' is the answer.
What do you know about 're-loading' ? I see you are a junior member. If you need some help to attempt a 're-load' then post another message on this forum and we will reply and try to help you.

What is your primary objective? You probably have some choices.

Do you want to try to keep your drive as intact as much as possible?

Do you want to try to save just your personal data/pictures/video/emails? (e.g. you're willing AND have the ability to reformat and re-install the OS as long as you can retrieve your data)

Do you want to just reformat and re-install the OS (from install media or "recovery" media? (giving up on saving any of your existing data)

Some decisions depend on if you have separate "recovery" media or installation media.

Some OEM systems provide the recovery files in a separate partition on the system hard-drive. If that's all you have, there's a chance they are infected as well if your problem is in fact malware.

Have you tried Spybot Search and Destroy?
Have you searched for a specific removal applet for the specific virus detected?
Can you let us know what the virus is?
There are some viruses/trojans that can be removed through the use of specific programs, or a specific series of steps.
My Pc has been invaded my Malware and I cant get rid of it. Its slowed my pc down like a snail in concrete boots. It wont let me do a system restore, my Desk top has been corrupted and generally screwed me. I have tried using "Lavasoft Adware2007" and "AVG 7.5" They reconise the trojans and the main Malware virus but they dont clear it.

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
