I found out my problem a while back. It was my VOIP phone. It's not compatable
with 64Bit, so that's what was giving me the problems.Once i unplugged the USB
it stopped.

This problem has been bugging me for ages too. In fact Vista bugs me sideways, but whatever. I've trawled the interweb looking for a solution and found nothing.

Anyway, I tried this and it seems to work: shortcut/properties/run as administrator.

Of course then you have the annoying UAC popup each time you run messenger - but at least it doesn't reinstall every time.

Hope this helps.
Yea I checked out the start up procedure when this first happend. I have a VIOP phone
as well, so thought it might had somin to do with that as it works with MSN and needs
to run with that. It seems to be ok now tho? I'll let you know if anything else crops up

About the MSN messenger reinstalling on every boot.
Just a thought -
Have you looked in the startup?
Sometimes if you have a previously failed or incomplete installation then the installation instruction will be in the startup. It may still be there even if you have subsequently installed the thing successfully.

If anyone has problems with system icons vanishing and you odn't like the
yellow oldskool folders, then, to retreive them back just do this:

Right Click on the icon, Properties, Location, and restore default.

That's all you do. It's as simple as that. And yet when I googled about how
to retrieve them, i got useless stupid info, and software that just made things worse
and ended up messing other icons or whatever else.

I've never tried to fix a missing Icon before, so this was all new to me, and after spending
hours messing about googling and trying freeware, I stumbled upon the restore default
accidently.

MSN Reinstalls everytime
Look, what is it with Microsoft and their own software? It seems to me that MS software
has trouble goin hand in hand with MS Operating Systems? I just wanna say this:

Vista isn't a bad OS. I actually like it. But it's the little stupid things that really irritate me.
Like for instance MSN Messenger... if i reboot, it reinstalls on start up. Or if I close
MSN then restart it, it installs again. It's things like this that really get on my t**s and
drive me insane. It's almost comical how stupid vista is at times - but not in a funny way.
Or on the otherhand, it's almost comical how Mircrosfts OWN software works in harmony
with Microsofts OS like Laurel & Hardy.

Another thing, the system Icons like My Music, Desktop top, etc tend to disappear,
or then magically reapper, or sometimes don't even reappear at all. Yea, it's trivial
stuff am writing here, but it's blatant stuff like that that gets noticed. Blatant stuff
that doesn't give good impressions to new users now or in the future.

Things I have noticed since the installation of SP1 (after a clean format) is that file
transfers to other disks, etc, seem to be a bit more reliable. And erm.. that's about it.

If anyone's experiencing the MSN problem i mentioned above, please let me know.
Also, I am fully aware that the msn shortcut in Start, Programs shud be a shortcut,
but acts like a bloody installer. For the record, I have uninstalled, and resinstalled
manually, and to no avail, problem still exists.

Vista by L&H (Laurel& Hardy)
