from quick look on google the laptop appears to support 1gig of mem. 512x2

See if they will exchange it? perhaps you've got a bad set? Or try going down in memory clock speed. Memory can be very fussy sometimes.

I've tried both sticks seperately, both with same undesired result.

I can only assume the shop are referring to chips, but that would then mean i could only have 2 x 256mb (512mb total) in the laptop. But I know I can have up to 1024mb ram.

I've never heard such terminology for system memory. May be he's referring to the number of chips on a stick of memory. 64 MB per chip, 8 chips?
Perhaps see if they will exchange it? Could be faulty RAM?

Did you try 1 stick at a time? See if the PC will even boot from 1 dimm instead of both. An I would try both independently using the same slot.
64x8 or 32x8???

Hi All

I recently bought some upgrade memory for a toshiba satellite pro 6000 (it was originally 256 i bought 2 x 512mb sticks)

Both sticks are pc133 144pin sdram etc etc i checked and double checked before buying but when i put the memory into the laptop it wouldn't turn on.
The shop i bought it from is trying to tell me i needed to get 32x8 memory because my motherboard won't support 64x8?!??!
I've looked everywhere for an answer and it seems to have not been a problem for anyone else.
Is the shop being truthful or are they just trying to get out of a refund?

Thanks
