When I watch movies on 1080i, even slow movies with minimal action, I see faint flickering that bugs my eyes, so I always set the DVR to 720p. I don't sit too incredibly far from the TV (maybe 6 feet), but with mild myopia I can't tell the difference between the resolution of 1080 and 720 anyway. As long as it has the inputs you need, it should be fine. It's good to have a nice amount of Component and HDMI inputs. Not sure how many your TV has, but they are quite important. Anything you buy that is HD, such as a HD Cable/Dish box, HD-DVD/BD/Upscaling DVD player, or a 360/PS3, will use either HDMI or component inputs to send a HD signal to your TV.
