help 8800 gts

Ok so heres the story. I originally had a radeon x1900gt, it worked great. I didn't have any complaints about it what so ever until i got CNC3. I loaded up the game and for a few hours it was ok then i got wicked corruption. Wierd purple lines and all sorts of good stuff. Luckily the manufacturer refunded me (this was after a year), and so i decided to purchase a geforce 8800gts 320. I followed the proper procedure for changing the cards in my vista 32 machine and CNC3 worked great. Then however a little while later i started getting massive nvlddmkm.sys errors. It would be ok for a little while and then i couldn't play for 5 minutes without getting pounded by 50 crashes. So i called EVGA and they told me to RMA it. This i did and then i received my 2nd 8800gts. It did the same damn thing. I have reinstalled vista 3 times.

So on to system specs: all the same from sig except proc which is different
mobo: msi rs480m2-il
processor: opteron 180
sound: audigy 2
hard drive: 160 gig
psu: 550 watt antec tru power 2 with 2 19amp 12volt rails. This is 38 total amps on the 12 volt lines which is way more than enough for the 8800gts.

This being said i borrowed a radeon x800xl from a friend and it works fine. I have heard that my mobo has some nvidia compatability issues. Msi rarely updates the bios or i would update that. I am at the latest one.

I am thinking about giving a radeon 3850 a try. Does anyone have any thoughts?
