Think hardware/environment implementation of VMWare, that is essentially what Hyper-V is. As such, there are hardly any limitations on what it can do. There simply is not anything better at this time.

Apparently, Hyper-V is capable of virtualizing even Linux.

Hmm, I didn't know that, and that is a good thing, but what I meant is that it will only run on a Windows (Server 2008 afaik) host. Still, I'm sure a lot of customers who utilize Windows for their server needs will be happy about that integration.

I used to be a huge fan of the SuSe distro, but weren't they bought out by Novell? And as such the Enterprise versions come at a hefty price tag? Is this a case of back scratching between Novell and MS?
I can see how it would be useful, but any public servers I set up use Linux or BSD for anyway, and I certainly wouldn't sign up to use a virtualized, colocated Windows server.

Q. Will Microsoft continue to support Linux operating systems with Hyper-V?
A. Yes, Microsoft will provide integration components and technical support for customers running select Linux distributions as guest operating systems within Hyper-V. Beta Linux integration components are now available for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1 x86 and x64 Editions. These integration components enable Xen-enabled Linux to take advantage of the VSP/VSC architecture and provide improved performance. Beta Linux Integration components are available for immediate download through http://connect.microsoft.com.

Gerritt

The reason I wanted Server 2008 is for Hyper-V. The way it is implemented is simply marvelous. It puts VMWare to shame. Ultimately I concluded that I would not need Hyper-V enough to wait for it over Server 2003 x64 Edition.

That's the way I see it. Plus, I'm not a gamer so the DX10 really isn't even an issue for me.

I see some implementation similarity between Vista and Blu-Ray. By the time each is mainstreamed, a better and cheaper (compared to today's bucks) alternative will be available.

"how long has vista been out"
Retail release date: January 30, 2007 so...just over a year.

I haven't used it yet so no comment. I almost got Server 2008 but I couldn't wait any longer for all the drivers I need. Generally, I'm very slow to adapt new operating systems so it will probably be another year before I even consider it.

It doesn't tread the fine line between love and hate, but crosses it multiple times!
I'm trying, so very hard to transfer totally to Vista, in it's x32 and 64bit implementations, but still need to keep a XP Pro 32 system running in order to get all of my work done.
