Price or cost? I'd rather pay a little more up front (price) than have continual instabillity or replacement issues due to heat or other conciderations (cost), which would definately increase the ongoing "cost" of maintaining a system. Now if the Foxconn was <$150, and the ASUS => $250, I'd consider the Foxconn, but only months after it's release and a review of early adopter feedback. I'd be much more willing to be an early adopter on the ASUS platform, due to what appears to me to be better initial engineering.
The viewpoint of an admitted ASUS fanboy.
I'd have to agree. The Asus is the only one that I can dub "realistic." I mean, the PCI slots are pretty much useless being so close to the PCIe x16 slots but there's really nothing to despise. The Gigabyte has 4 NICs + 8 USB and not much else (I already disable 1 of 2 NICs on my computers so I don't get the network disconnected icon in the systray). I never liked motherboards that strap on a giant fan like the Foxconn does. It simply looks poorly designed placing too many hot components too close together with not enough metal to adequately dissipate the heat. Yeah, if I had to buy one, I would take the Asus first choice, Foxconn second, Gigabyte third.

If I understand it properly, the Foxconn board does have 6 SATA connections incorporated into the 3 90 degree modules pictured.

I do have an issue with Foxconns lack of heatpipes to the chipset, but discrete Isolated Heatsinks that could limit it. Asus and Gigabyte get the nod from me for their fanless designs. The reason for the "hefty" heatsinks is that all of them are "fanless" MB cooling systems, barring the 120mm clip on fan in the Foxconn.

The Foxconn brags about 8 phase voltage regulation for the CPU, while Gigabyte has 12 and Asus 16 phase regulation...seems the second two would have better stability.

Of the three, I like Asus's layout and technology the best from a stability viewpoint, but then again, I am a bit of a Asus fanboi.
Why is there such hefty cooling on all of them? I mean, P45 is supposed to be mainstream, not enthusiast. They all look like there should be a X48 under the hood. And 4 NICs!?! I'm hard pressed to use more than one...yet they have hardly any SATA headers.
Woah, take it easy now. All Mothow wanted to do was show that the new P45 chipset is right around the corner especially since there have been some information leaks. The first sample/reveal so happened to be Foxconn. No need to rain on his parade.

I concur with F. His advice applies to any manufacturer, especially now.

When you're dealing with these multi-GHz boards, the board design programs used by the circuit design engineers are bleeding edge and based on sometimes unproven simulation. Successfully moving the board from the design stage to the end of the manufacturing line is also virgin territory. The only way to determine viability is to wait for a large sample size from the field.
