Hello, I just tried that player and it opens the file and plays the video.

So this seams to confirm that it is a codec problem. Any ideias on how to solve this ?

Thanks.

As a check you might try Kang Media Player aka KMplayer (althought there is another out there also called KMplayer)

It's a standalone player, and doesn't rely on many external support files. You just download the .zip into the folder of your choice, unpack it, and double-click on KMplayer.exe. This may help you determine for sure if it's a codec version or corruption problem or not.

v1428 is the last stable version.

I'm currently trying v1431 beta downloaded from the author's website, and it is doing quite well.

If I remember right, I think at least one of the links I provided above is a .exe self-installer shell if you like those.

Hello again, here is some more information:

I downloaded GSPOT and ran it to analyse some of the video files. It says that the Video and Audio codec are not installed.

The video codec for one of the files is Xvid 1.0.3. So I downloaded a more recent version of Xvid (1.1.3) and installed it. Then I ran GSPOT again on the same file. It still says that the Xvid codec is not installed.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello,

my Windows Vista is having problems reproducing video files:

1) Windows Media Player can't play them

2) Media Player Classic can't play them

Everything was working fine some weeks ago and I don't know what could have caused this.

This is not likely a problem related to the files themselves, since I have tried a bunch of videos and none of those worked.

What I already tried:

1) Uninstalled the current codec pack

2) installed a newer version of the Windos Vista Codec Pack V 4 6 5 and they (the videos) still don't work.

2) went to the speaker's configuration and "Tested" the output device (one of the suggestions to solve this given by Windows Media Player Online Help was to check if the Audio device was ok). The test was ok (audio was outputted).

4) installed a new version of the codec pack that was previously installed - Comunity Codec Pack - still the files are not played.

Here's the message given by Windows Media Player:

You've encountered error message C00D1199 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

And the message that Media Player Classic gives:

Cannot render the file.

Any suggestions? Thanks.
