Not that I'm suggesting you modify your meds, but......

Although dietary causes are thought to affect urinary colour, this patient's lack of such history and presence of normal-coloured stool did not lend support to a dietary source of his urinary discoloration. In addition, he did not develop a change in his urine colour until presentation to the hospital, making an iatrogenic cause of this discoloration likely. The patient's only medications prior to the onset of green urine had consisted of metoclopramide. In a similar case, a patient who had presented with nausea and vomiting developed green urine after receiving cimetidine and promethazine HCl (Phenergan) [1]. FD&C Blue No.1 has been detected in the urine of patients who had been receiving this food dye in their enteral feedings and the authors concluded that absorption of this dye may cause dark green discoloration of urine [2,3]. It is of note, however, that one of these patients had also received metoclopramide [2]. Other drugs that have been associated with green urine include propofol [4,5], methylene blue [6,7] and methocarbamol [6].

Tight. You got me trying to recall what actually causes urine to become yellow in the first place (urochrome--waste from processing dead red cells in the liver) and came accross this site which lists pretty much the rainbow of urine and associated causes:
http://www.school-for-champions.com/health/urine_color.htm
Meats of Evil said:
Imagine that, chemiluminescence glow in the dark URINE!

What I do know is that urine is sterile (unless there is an infection) because what appears in the urine was filtered out of the bloodstream via the kidneys. So, if the blood system does not absorb the chemical and the chemical is not removed from the urine by the kidneys in significant quantities, it will not effect the color of your urine. Of course, you can get red/black urine if you are passing kidney stones but that's something you do not want. As far as I know, it is impossible to make urine illuminate in the visual spectrum but...

There is a barium compound that is drank orally, absorbed into the blood stream through the walls of the stomach, and then filtered the moment it hits the kidneys. It doesn't make your urine visibly colorful but it does show up on x-ray images (crazy how efficient healthy kidneys are).

And of course, urine is visible via ultraviolet and infrared (if still warm from being in your body) sensitive cameras. As far as I know, those are the only means to change the "color" of urine but they aren't really changing the color at all. XD

That's not to say there isn't a freak medical condition out there that does but, rest assured, you (in your right mind) shouldn't want it just to have psychedelic urine for the few urinations before it gets old. Even if something were invented, it would probably have to be approved by the FDA before it can be marketed.

Not to give you ideas but fecal can be very colorful and at the same time, far less harmful...

Gerritt, it's mice, created first by Japanese scientists by splicing glowing jellyfish genes to mice embryos. Here's the article, http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/summary/277/5322/41c
_MD_ said:
The neon you're talking about is a gas and requires current for particles to get excited and light up. If you mean a chemical reaction, I'd suggest "chemiluminescence". Components required: hydrogen peroxide solution (as an "activator") and a solution of phenyl oxalate ester and a fluorescent dye (which makes the colour). I can hardly imagine that the elements above can in any way be safe to digest.

Ah yeah MD thanks for that tip, my chemistry is worse than an 8 year old, never paid much attention in that class.
It may be hazardous to your health, seriously!

Hah! just being creative here. I would wish it wasn't hazardous in any way to the human digestive system. But imagine if it weren't. If there is such a product in existence I wouldn't doubt it exists in Japan, I've seen the craziest candy and beverages over there.

Well the question still stands, will you drink it if it wasn't hazardous? And what would you do while urinating?
