The TLB bug should never have been there in the first place - a pretty large bug for a released CPU.

Super XP said:
Deneb 45nm should get much better yields and AMD stated they are going to release and replace all current SB600 chipsets with the new SB750 which promises much higher OC's well past 3.0 GHz.

Requiring people to buy a new mobo............. (just to use their current CPU)
Super XP said:
I too want AMD to be somewhat competitive to further drive prices down. It will suck if AMD does not execute their 45nm process properly. And they better not delay the freaking thing or they will be in more trouble than it’s worth.

I'm not holding my breath for no delays.

Super XP said:
Everybody seems to be very happy with the HD 4800 cards, at least something is going good for them.

Yes, so ATI can do the job properly. Their CPU engineers seem to have run out of steam after K8

Yes, the Phenom runs great on SB600 based mobo's but they just don't OC well enough. The SB750 will bring new features and will be very OC'ing friendly.

The TLB bug was stupid I admit but Intel had a lot more bugs wrong with the Core 2 when they released it. The only difference was Intel kept quiet and quickly fixed the problem, AMD on the other hand just had to tell the world Duuuu

Did you have a chance to compare both the HD 3800 vs. the HD 4800? There is a reason why the HD 4800 is significantly much faster. AMD scraped the Internal Ring Bus Memory Controller which was used for the HD 3800’s and replaced it with a Crossbar Switch very similar to what you would find on the K8 CPU design. Along with a few other architectural changes which made the HD 4800’s propel past the competition.

This was a smart move by AMD, and I do admit the Ring Bus was quite difficult to work with, it really should have provided much better speeds in theory, but I guess ATI just could not get it working at 100% I assume.
Because of Moore's law, the price of processors stay relatively constant. We pay about as much for relative performance now as we did back in the early 90's. If you throw in inflation, we are actually paying less.
I have never seen either AMD or Intel get as bad a beating as AMD have been getting the past 2 years.

Intel have changed their strategy drastically since the release of Conroe. They are producing high yielding, high performing CPU's with relatively low TDP's, they clock very well, they drop node sizes when they have it ready, and they sell at a reasonable price.

I used to be an Intel hater (at least during P4 era), but I have to say, I cannot fault them, their tick-tock strategy, their media pieces, their CPU's, their chipsets etc etc.

They've even become quite friendly with the tech press, giving plenty of tid-bits of info on upcoming products, unlike AMD who are acting with such secrecy over their products, you know they wont perform.

There's nothing to do with the budget, AMD acquired ATI way back, every semiconductor company have their plans/architecture build up two-three years earlier, hence ATI was going towards what their plan was, and there was no need for extra money/expenditure.

So, the same applies for Phenom and upcoming processor/s, atleast for a good year and half.
Inexpensive too. They are usually bought in bulk from mostly Dell and HP. They run your Microsoft Office suite of software, IE, and maybe in-house developed software. These are also the platforms moving towards virtualization.

There is also a minority of business workstations for the professional CAD users (e.g. Photoshop, AutoCAD, etc.). You often find a mix of enterprise hardware in these like your SCSI/SAS hard drives and potentially more than one processor. Workstation computers many times more expensive than the typical business desktop.
Anyway, the CPU connects to the north bridge, not the SB.

I've never seen a broken SB to affect CPU overclocking.

If it clocked well, regardless of the chipset, it would be available at higher speeds anyway

I'm not sure I buy it either, I think the 2.6GHz 9950 with its 140W TDP says it all.
Then explain why for some reason the current SB600 affects the Phenom's clock generator. everytime you OC with a SB600 based mobo, for some reason the clocks never become stable and I've read its because of the clock generator.

The newer chipsets featuring the new SB750 does not have that problem and that you will be able to easily OC any Phenom past 3.00GHz with just a very minor bump in volts.

This info is not just coming from Fudzilla, everybody is talking about it including AMD and their AMDOverdrive utility which they seem to push onto people with Phenoms.
AMD 790FX to get a re-birth
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=...;Itemid=37

The new Southbridge makes a really big difference and despite a few new features, such as Raid 5 support, the new Southbridge will make the board overclock much better.
