Oh yes I've seen this program before it's especially useful people who install an app and forget about it, or the persons who like everything to be auto-updated (Like my father lol) it worked well for him but I don't like these kind of things.

Just curious... what was the original topic title? It seem to cause a stir with paranoia with some users here lol.

I will do just that, do you mind if I "steal" your title. That actually makes much more sense of the fumbling i done. I suppose.... I really didn't think that one through.
"Security" is an incredibly broad topic. While I agree it would be desirable to have a section labeled "Security" on HWA (for physical and software security), I think your title might benefit from changing to something like "Security-Free Online System Malware Threat Assessment"...or similar.

There are a number of similar assessment websites. Each exposes you to some level of invasive assessment and each has the potential to be a very healthy tool, or actively hostile, selling your IP address and vulnerability status to someone else (e.g. the big business of zombie makers), being part of an ID theft-ring, or simply being incompetent.

Online "reviews" for anything can also be artificially skewed for various reasons, often profit motivated, and trusted reviewers are not immune to scams. Multiple trusted independent reviewers is always a good thing if available.

In the end, one has to make one's own determination based on due diligence research and either reject it or accept the risks in the hope that a greater good will result. Those who accept anything at face value sometimes learn an expensive or time-consuming lesson.

Secunia has been around for a while, and provide a good free service.
As a security professional, all I would suggest to anyone that is as paranoid as myself, is that you DESELECT the DEFAULT of "TRUST ALL CONTENT FROM THIS SITE" before running.

It's been a few months since I've used the site, but they found my Firefox was a few weeks out of patch levels. This is useful information, but I'd not trust them for all content any more than any other online service.

They are offering this low level service in hopes that you'll purchase their full package. So useful, but not a replacement for any other full package that does the same thing. Just make sure that you read and select the proper configuration, then if need be, remove the ActiveX control.

They are a legit company that has been around since the fall of '02.
Secunia has managed to gain a very strong position within the industry of Vulnerability Assessment, Remediation, and Management. Not only has Secunia managed to attain the status of a highly respected player in the industry, they are also highly regarded and frequently acknowledged by software vendors, security institutions, and the global media
.

http://corporate.secunia.com/about_secunia/43/history_secunia_...t_ceo_cto/
I've personally been using there service for 3 1/2 years, and have never had any problems whatsoever. maybe some people take paranoia to far, I don't know. Anyway use it or don't, that's totally up to the individual. I use it and I KNOW I'm up to date!

Sorry about that. Let me re-fraze that. It runs through your browser. No installation or download is required. And it is NOT my "secure" site, I don't know you either. If you choose not to, that's fine, I really don't care. But others may wish to, leaving you out in the cold. It's just a good way of knowing that you have all the updated programs.
And all I am doing is recomending a very good appliance to make sure everybody is up to date.
It is secure just read the reviews:
Since there is no section on security I'll post here.
And since programs are always updated and nobody really stays on top of these it would be a good idea to make sure you have the latest.
Here is a good place to check your software and make sure it's up to date

Secunia Software Inspector http://secunia.com/software_inspector/

It checks:
Internet browsers
Internet browser plugins
Instant messaging clients
Email clients
Media players
Operating systems

Hope you all can use this.
